Apple Promotes Self-Published Books With New Section In iBookstore

Today Apple introduced a new section in its iBookstore entitled "Breakout Books", offering books that have been independently published to the iBookstore by authors. The section features titles that have earned 4 and 5 star reviews.

“Find the next reading sensation with this hand-picked collection of books from emerging talents. All are independently published directly to the iBookstore and have earned high ratings from customers like you. Check back regularly – new titles are added as they begin taking off”.

The featured books are divided into four categories: Mysteries & Thrillers, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, More to Explore and Romance. The New Your Times notes that price is a powerful incentive for the promotion, as majority of the books in the section is sold for far below the cost of a publishing house book.
