Apple Was Granted Patent for Embedding Displays in Bezels Made out of LiquidMetal Alloy

Apple on Tuesday was granted a patent for "Methods and systems for integrally trapping a glass insert in a metal bezel". The document describes a method of joining iPhone’s glass with a bezel made of a new kind of metal alloy. In our particular case, the alloy is called LiquidMetal.

Although the guys from Cupertino filed this patent six years ago, it somehow was granted only now, in 2014.

As noted by AppleInsider reporters,

Apple's U.S. Patent No. 8,738,104 for "Methods and systems for integrally trapping a glass insert in a metal bezel" harkens back to the origins of LiquidMetal, which first saw limited use in 2003 in medical equipment, sporting goods and military applications.

Apple is expected to use the technology described in the patent for the production of its next-generation iPhones. Of course, I’m now talking about those handsets that will be released in 2015, not this year.
