Apple's iPhones to Feature Sidewall Display?

Apple on Tuesday was granted a patent for "Electronic devices with sidewall displays", which means that the guys from Cupertino are planning to place a kind of flexible display around the sidewalls of their future handsets.

Here's what AppleInsider writes about the patent:

As noted in the document, the invention consists of one or more flexible display layers disposed beneath a clear plastic or glass housing. The patent calls for at least one sidewall to be fitted with an edge display that is an extension of the main front-facing touchscreen.

This is not the first patent, which describes a wrap-around display, however, this is the most realistic one. Additional space on the side panel of the device will allow to free up space on the main screen and to expand the functionality of the handset.

To be honest, I don't know if Apple plans to use the new display in the near future, but I think that suchlike technology will allow to make the iPhone even more user-friendly.
