Following the moves of Financial Times, Fortune and other companies taking advantages of using modern web technologies, a location based social network FourSquare is also focusing on using HTML5. For majority of the social apps found in the App Store, an elaborate HTML5 web app can work just as well as native apps.

Foursquare’s new web app doesn’t just offer the features found in the native iPhone app, it also includes new social discovery options which is optimized for different mobile devices, including Apple’s iPad and other tablets.

Go to foursquare.com in your iPad’s Safari and log in there. You should see a map showing your friends, places on your lists, popular places and places with Specials.

The List discovery functionality allows you to search for a particular venue tapping into expertise of the huge foursquare community. The redesign of the site includes bigger photos, better representation of tips and information, revamped place pages and so forth. Also the information about places on the map is personalized based on the time of day.
