Foxconn Plans to Build Display Factory in China?

According to the latest reports from the Wall Street Journal reporters, Foxconn is currently thinking about building a display factory in northern China. This factory is expected to produce high-end screens for smartphones. If the authorities of Zhengzhou give a permission to open such a facility, Foxconn will get an opportunity to manufacture screens for Apple’s next-generation iPhones.

It should be noted that aside from Foxconn, building such a factory is beneficial for both Apple and the Henan Province, where it is supposed to be located.

Foxconn, formally known as Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., is discussing a possible investment with the government of Zhengzhou, about 750 kilometers south of Beijing, according to people familiar with the talks. The two sides are discussing terms such as how to divide the investment, which could reach as much as 35 billion yuan ($5.7 billion), the people said.

It is unclear whether Foxconn will get a permission to build a new plant or not. Anyway, the company is currently one of Apple’s major suppliers; it produces cables and metal casings for various Apple devices and now has a good chance to become the supplier of displays.
