Hacker Managed to Run Web Browser on His Apple Watch [Video]

Hackers have recently begun exploring the capabilities of the Apple Watch. The wearable gadget launched in the USA and a number of other countries on April 24th has already been hacked to run a web browser. Below you may take a look at the short video showing Google’s start page right on the screen of the smartwatch. Although using a web-browser on a device with the screen size like this does not seem a very convenient thing, the fact remains: you can use a browser on your Apple Watch.

It is currently unknown how the hacker nicknamed Comex managed to open the browser on his smartwatch. Reporters believe he somehow bypassed the restrictions built in the Watch OS SDK and ran his code. If this is true, it looks like it is possible to run any iOS-compatible program on the Apple Watch. However, let’s not make any conclusions as we don’t know any details.

Comex let us know that "Watch OS is based on UIKit already, but the SDK doesn’t allow running any native code." How he was able to get past the SDK's restrictions is still a mystery but we'll let you know when we hear more!

It would be interesting to see Apple’s reaction to this experiment. Still, I don’t think we’ll ever see it or hear any official comments on this issue.
