SBSettings [Cydia]





We had a post about SBSettings - the future of BossPrefs (link). Couple days ago this application became  avaliable in Cydia.

SBSettings doenst have an icon so after you install to access it you must slide across the statusbar (aka the top bar that displays service, time, battery, etc.)

Current version is 0.92. But the application is updated almost every day.

This application is avaliable for jailbreaked iPhones via Cydia installer.

iRa application is the most expensive iPhone application. It costs $899.99 (AppStore link). iRa provides the user with viewing and control of IP based surveillance equipment. The company recommends users contact a reseller/integrator to make sure the proper equipment is used to run the app.

Features include:

  • Easily view many video feeds simultaneously
  • Full screen video view
  • PTZ (pan, tilt, zoom) control for camera motion
  • Familiar finger drag and pinch controls
  • Group cameras for quick access
  • Automatic discovery of properly configured network cameras

Google Earth for iPhone [AppStore, Free]



Google announced the release of an iPhone native version of their Google Earth application. The application is free, avaliable from the AppStore (iTunes Link).

iPhone firmware 2.2 beta 2



Apple has seeded iPhone 2.2 Firmware Beta 2 and has fully enabled Google Street View. Beta 1 of iPhone 2.2 had hidden APIs related to the Street View for Google Maps, but was not enabled.

The seed notes also indicated that Line-in audio accessories are now supported in the SDK.

Classics App: eBook reading [AppStore]



A new eBook application called Classics takes it to the next level by incorporating a remarkably finished interface with custom bookcovers and 3d page-turning animations with the swipe of a finger:

The eBook application will be available for $2.99 in the App Store "soon", and includes 12 "classics" including Alice in Winterland, Call of the Wild, 20000 Leagues Under the Sea and more. They also promise that the collection will keep growing with free software updates.

iPhone App Store vs the Android Marketplace



Medialets have put together a comparison of the iPhone App Store and the Android Marketplace after the first 24 hours. There is nothing really Earth-shattering in the data, but it does provide some insight into the similarities between iPhone and G1 users. Basically, it illustrates that both parties are interested in the same sorts of apps, given the fact that the distributions are fairly similar.

Handshake makes it easy to share your contact information and photos with people around you. Works across EDGE, WiFi, and 3g on the iPhone and iPod Touch.

The app is free (AppStore link), but it involves advertising. You can buy Handshake Premium (AppStore link) for $2.99, which is advertisement-free.

Record: one more free recoder [AppStore, Free]



Another nice application became free today. The price dropped from $1.99 to $0. The app is called Record (AppStore link). This is audio and voice recorder for iPhone.

Features:

  • Launch and shake to start recording, or if you prefer, use the button on the lower right toolbar.
  • Pause and resume recordings.
  • Search recording titles.
  • Organise recordings into folders.
  • Setup smart folders based on keywords, or the location you recorded.
  • Email recordings from your iPhone (15 minute recordings or shorter).
  • Rename and reorder recordings.
  • Seek and pause during playback.
  • Compressed IMA4 AIFF format.
  • Records when iPhone is locked.

NOTE: iPod Touch 2nd Gen users will need an Apple headset with microphone to use Record.

MID device: another iPhone killer?



Intel showed off a prototype handheld based on Moorestown, its upcoming Mobile Internet Device (MID) platform designed to enable a new generation of ultra-thin, touchscreen devices with extensive battery life.

Moorestown will consist of a system-on-a-chip (SOC), codenamed "Lincroft," which integrates a 45nm processor, graphics, memory controller and video encode/decode onto a single part. The platform will support a range of wireless technologies including 3G, WiMAX, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth and mobile TV.

The divice will be avaliable sometime in the 2009-2010 time. Here is a video with presentation from IDF:
