Retina MacBook Pro User Filed A Class-Action Suit Against Apple

Since Apple launched its 15,4-inch Retina MacBook Pro in June last year, there have been an increasing number of complaints from users experiencing issues with the device. The most reported issue is one that causes a ghosting or burn-in problem on its display and has resulted in a support thread with more than 365, 215 views [1].

Apple uses displays from two suppliers, Samsung and LG, and many people have speculated the source of the problem was in LG-made displays (as shown in the video above). Today a MacBook Pro user named Beau Hodges has decided to file a class-action suit against Apple in California’s federal court alleging that MacBook Pro users have no way of telling which devices have an LG-made screen at the time of purchase. According to [2] Law360, the lawsuit is seeking unspecified damages for MacBook Pro customers nationwide:

“The performance disparity between the LG version and the Samsung version is particularly troubling given that Apple represents the MacBook Pro with retina display as a single, unitary product, described as the highest quality notebook display on the market,” the complaint said. “None of Apple’s advertisements or representations discloses that it produces the computers with display screens that exhibit different levels of performance and quality.”

Many users report that Apple replaced their LG-made screens with Samsung-made screens following the issues, but Apple has not yet confirmed the problem publicly.
