Sim cards can be easily hacked

Karsten Nohl claims that some SIM cards feature a flaw in the encryption technology, so that telephones with the cards can be spied on.

This flaw enables the hackers to send a spoof text message to the device. The latter will answer by revealing the 56-bit data encryption standard key (DES). Using the key, the attacker gains possibility to install dangerous software on the device and even listen in on your phone calls, access/send text messages and much more.

Apple reportedly rejecting apps that access UDIDs

UDID

TechCrunch on Saturday reported that Apple has reportedly started rejecting apps which access UDIDs (A unique device identifier, is basically a serial number that a mobile network uses to identify mobile devices like the iPhone and iPad.)

In August 2011, Apple warned software makers that the company would be killing off UDID access with iOS 5, suggesting that developers begin work on app-specific tracking mechanisms. Removing the feature effectively ends OS-wide user tracking and forces developers to create their own proprietary opt-in identification systems.

First sample photos from new iPad show dramatic improvement over iPad 2

ipadcamera-1

Vietnamese website Tinh.te claimed on Tuesday to have received an LTE-capable version of Apple's new iPad. And soon there appeared a series of photos made by the third-generation iPad.

Later on Tuesday, a group of photos supposedly taken by the new iPad were posted to the website's forums. It's clear from the images that the new iPad camera is not as good as the 8-megapixel camera on the iPhone 4S, but, when compared to the iPad 2, which had a less-than-1-megapixel resolution, it's a definite step up.

Apple Experimenting With 'New Way of Charging' for 2012 iPhone

iphone_4_dock_connector

The Wall Street Journal has reported that Apple now is experimenting with new way of charging for the next-generation iPhone set for launch in 2012.

People briefed on Apple's plans said the company is planning a major iPhone revamp then, with one person saying the company has been experimenting with features such as a new way of charging the phone.

As usual it is unclear what charging mechanisms Apple is exploring, but some sources believe that the company could use induction charging or some other wireless system that does not require a cable. It seems that Apple is intending to make its next iPhone a cable-free device.

The Wall Street Journal has also reiterated rumours about a less expensive iPhone, co-called “iPhone nano”,  with an edge-to-edge screen.

Apple has also been working on a less-expensive phone with new features such as an edge-to-edge screen, according to this person.

Class action lawsuit filed against Apple over iPhone 4 ‘glassgate’

glassgate

A California resident has filed a class action lawsuit against Apple. He claims that the company doesn’t warn customers enough about the fragility of the iPhone 4. He said that his iPhone 4′s glass broke when his daughter dropped the device from a height of about 3 feet, while sending a text message. He tried the same experiment with an iPhone 3GS, which didn't break. The man even claims that Apple “knows about the design flaw and refuses to warn consumers that “normal” use leads essentially to a broken phone.” Though, as Apple claims, the iPhone 4′s glass is 30 times harder than plastic and is the same “glass used in helicopters and high-speed trains.” But a survey of 20,000 damaged iPhone 4 proved that the iPhone 4′s glass breaks 82% more than the iPhone 3GS’s glass.

Apple's next-gen iPad to get iPod touch-like back, wide-range speaker

ipad_2_case

Japanese blog MacOtakara published a new portion of rumors concerning Apple’s iPad 2. It claims that the second-generation iPad will have a smaller bezel, a flat back panel and a wide-range speaker. These changes might be caused by a couple of criticisms of the original iPad design. The outer plastic bezel surrounding the LCD screen of the iPad was seen as large by some. Thus, the forthcoming iPad will be 3mm smaller; reportedly measuring 239mm by 186mm. LCD screen on the next-generation iPad will stay the same size. Back of the iPad is reported to be "flat like an iPod Touch". It will allow the new iPad to sit flat on a desk surface. The current iPad has a rounded back. The Ambient Light Sensor will be moved to the "upper center of the rear panel and has a new 3mm slim hole". According to rumors, production of the new iPad has already begun and it will probably start shipping in the mid of January.
