Apple iPhone 5 and Nokia Lumia 1020: Camera Comparison

52% of developers are using iOS 7-only app updates



Last month it was found out that very few users are ready to pay for iOS 7 app updates on apps they already owned.  Most of them would prefer to stay on iOS 6, rather than to update to iOS 7 and pay again for the apps.

Let's have at what developers think.

Craig Hockenberry, developer at Iconfactory (Twitterrific):

Like many of my fellow developers, I am in the middle of an update of an app for iOS 7. As you’d expect, it’s a lot more work than previous versions of iOS. But results are stunning: both David Lanham and I have commented that our shipping version was “feeling old and clunky.”

While cranking along on the update, a couple of thoughts occurred to me: how many other developers were doing the same thing and were they going to commit fully to iOS 7? The depth and breadth of the changes in iOS 7 makes it difficult to support older versions of the OS.

Apple's Lower Cost iPhone Would Have the Same 8MP Camera as iPhone 5



Looks like the Apple’s lower cost iPhone would be an iPhone 5 plastic copy. Apart from the other similar hardware solutions, it is said to get an 8-megapixel rear camera. MacRumors (with reference to a Chinese website IT168) claim that the picture below shows nothing else but a rear iPhone 5C photo sensor.

iPhone 5 sells twice as fast as Galaxy 4



According to a recent market research, Samsung spent twice as much time to ship 20 millions Galaxy 4 units as Apple for shipping the same amount of iPhone 5.

Judging by official opening weekend numbers and quarterly earnings reports, it took Apple 25 days to ship 20 million items, a month less than Samsung figure. Moreover, over the launch period Apple shipped 805,000 units per days, whereas Samsung sold half as many, about 333,000.

iOS 7 detects blinking and smiling in photos



In iOS 7 beta 2, Apple has added new photo detecters that can detect certain facial expressions like blinking and smiling. In iOS 5 and iOS 6 the APIs provided basic facial recognition, and soon after Apple implemented face detection in the stock Camera app.

So in the future, when Apple implements new functionality in Camera app, users might get notification if the taken photo has some blinking.

Samsung Accidentally Leaks Galaxy S4 Mini [Images]



 

Samsung has accidentally leaked its upcoming Galaxy S4 mini smartphone.

The device was spotted Samsung’s official apps site by TGSpot. The site lets you sort apps by device and one of the devices in the list is the Galaxy S4 mini.

The smaller smartphone is expected to have a Super AMOLED 960x540 4.3-inch display, down from 5-inches. It's also said to feature a 1.6GHz processor and 8-megapixel camera.

Apple Stores Are Pushing New Table-Based Customer Service Strategy



Apple is gradually rolling out a new customer service initiative called ‘table selling’ across its retail stores. With the new strategy, employees at Apple Stores are assigned a product table at which they are responsible for serving groups of customers with the same device but different needs. Previously, employees helped each customer individually on a first-come, first-serve basis which often resulted in lengthy wait times.

Lower-Cost iPhone Model Will Lack Retina Display?

iPhone 5S is to appear at the 3rd quarter



DigiTimes reports that the components for the next generation iPhone will be shipped at the end of may, and the new Apple’s smartphone may appear somewhere in the third quarter. This confirms other reports that iPhones will be released in June or July.
