id Software's original iPhone game Doom Resurrection (App Store link) was released into the App Store earlier today. The Doom 3 inspired game offers a first person shooting experience that's been adapted to the iPhone. The player's movements in the game are scripted while the aiming/shooting is controlled by the accelerometer. This video shows the game in action:

Skype, the application for iPhone and iPod Touch through which you can call and chat for free with your Skype contacts, has been updated to version 1.1. This is an update adds some small improvements and bug fixes.

What's new in version 1.1

• Support for the following languages: English, German, Dutch, Brazilian Portuguese, Portuguese, Spanish, Norwegian, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Italian, French, Polish and Japanese.
• Send text (SMS) messages using Skype credit.
• Voicemail support.
• Improved dialing help when calling phones.

Medialets today released the results of JavaScript benchmark tests performed using the SunSpider test suite on the iPhone 3G and 3GS, the T-Mobile G1 running Android, and the Palm Pre running webOS. The use of the SunSpider suite for benchmarking studies enables cross-platform comparisons among the devices, as they all utilize WebKit-based Web browsers. In the Medialets study, the iPhone 3GS outperformed the Palm Pre by a factor of three and the T-Mobile G1 by over a factor of five.

Notably, Medialets also tested the iPhone 3G running both iPhone OS 2.2.1 and OS 3.0, revealing that iPhone OS 3.0 provides a nearly three-fold improvement in performance over OS 2.2.1 running on the same hardware. The shift to the iPhone 3GS increases performance a further three-fold.

ComputerWorld points out a little publicized fact that iPhone 3.0's Safari browser will support Geolocation services. This means that websites will be able to request your current location (if you give them permission). Google said they will be launching the Latitude website for iPhone after the 3.0 OS is released.

The game of Eminem (the famous American rapper), is now available in Store. The rumors were true and Relapse is released. The goal of the game is to survive and the dynamics is quite similar to Zombieville USA.

NYC UpNext 3D is a new application available in AppStore. It offers a 3D map of New York. There is a support for GPS, users can see their position and all the surrounding streets. The application also includes Manhattan. Every single building is shown with the correct proportions of height, width and thickness. UpNext 3D NYC integrates many points of interest and users reviews. The app is very well made. There is even a subway map.

App costs $2.99 (AppStore link). Here's a video demonstration:

YXFlash is a new application that is available in Cydia and includes the codecs to display Xvid / DivX video files . We will not longer need to convert movies into a format supported by Apple. The converted videos do play a bit smoother due to hardware acceleration, but xvid videos are watchable, at least the ones I tested. The player also plays flash content if you have downloaded flash flv videos to your device. It is not a web based flash player, this does not play flash videos embedded on websites. In order to add the videos just upload them using iFunBox or iPhone Browser.

Here is the complete list of formats supported by the complete version:

reMail Search is a new application available for free in AppStore (link). It allows users to perform accurate searches in emails. There is an automatic completion of keywords in the search mode, so you can find neccesary emails very quickly.

reMail Search also works offline. The application, in fact, downloads e-mails keeping them in the cache on your iPhone / iPod Touch. reMail Search also works with all IMAP accounts, such as Gmail. The application is compatible with iPhone and iPod Touch, requires upgrading to firmware 2.2 and is localized in English.

This is a beautiful new app from SnappyTouch. It is offering iPhone users a very polished flower garden experience. Appropriately titled Flower Garden. Avaliable in App Store (link) for $2.99.

The Dictionary.com does just what you might expect it to, it delivers content from Dictionary.com and Thesaurus.com. There are 275,000 definitions and 80,000 synonyms. The app also features audio pronunciations, similarly spelled words and Dictionary.com’s popular Word of the Day. Internet connection is required only for Word of the Day, audio pronunciations and similarly spelled words.

Equilibrio is a new game where you control a ball through various levels to reach the exit. It is a very funny game where we use physics to guide a ball using the accelerometer of the iPhone and iPod Touch. In the lower left is a kind of small map that shows the structure and level of play while we try to take the coins.
