iPhoneDevSDK informs what led to hacking Apple and Facebook





In January, a number of Apple employees’ Mac devices have been hacked after visiting a popular iPhoneDevSDK forum. The employees from Facebook and, probably, dozens of other companies have also been attacked by the hacker. The site's owner, Ian Sefferman,  has provided some limited details about what happened in his blog.

Apple announced about 25 billion downloaded songs



Apple today announced that the iTunes Store reached a new level of downloadable songs which amounts to 25 billion. Interestingly, Apple has also awarded the user who downloaded 25 billionth song with € 10,000 iTunes gift card, although the company did not carry out promotions for the competition, as it was for the previous milestones.

Apple Began Offering 128 GB iPad In Online Store



Following its announcement last week, today Apple began offering the new 128 GB iPad models on the Apple online store with shipping times for the new model being quoted at 1-3 business days for majority of countries. In the United States, shipping times for 128 GB Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad are currently listed at 3-5 business for all three carriers.

Apple in talks to include the HBO Go service on Apple TV



Bloomberg reports that Apple is negotiating with HBO to integrate video streaming service to Apple TV. HBO Go is a streaming service that lets HBO subscribers watch HBO content on PCs, tablets, consoles and other platforms.

iPhone Users Spend The Most For Monthly Carrier Bills



AllThingsD reports on a new research from Consumer Intelligence Research Partners showing that iPhone users on average spend the most for monthly carrier bills. The research company polled smartphone users in the period from October to December 2012 and found that 59% of iOS users spend more than $100 per month.

Microsoft Said 128GB Surface Pro Ships With 83GB Of Free Storage



Today Apple announced that the new 128GB iPad model would go on sale on February 5th with a starting price of $799 – an attractive option for those who consider purchasing Surface Pro tablet when it debut on February 9th. Microsoft today also confirmed (via Engadget) that 45GB of storage space in the new Surface Pro will be used for Windows 8 and various preloaded applications, leaving owners of the 128GB model with 83GB of free storage. Apple has released new iOS 6.1 with expanded LTE connectivity



 

After iOS 6.1 Beta 5 for developer’s release, Apple has just added iOS 6.1 for public. This update includes support for new LTE connectivity and purchasing Siri -based tickets to the cinema through Fandango, much as individual downloads of songs in iTunes Match and a new button ' reset ' to track advertising.

"This update contains improvements and bug fixes, including:

  • LTE support for more carriers (complete list of supported carriers at www.apple.com/iphone/LTE/)
  • Purchase movie, tickets through Fandango with Siri (USA only)
  • iTunes Match subscribers can now download individual songs from iCloud

Unlocking Of Newly Purchased Mobile Phones Will Become Illegal In U.S.



According to Tech News Daily, a new federal law in the U.S. will go into effect on January 26 making it illegal for owners of mobile phones to unlock their devices for use on other carriers if this is not authorized by their carriers. The federal law applies to new devices purchased beginning on January 26, but not to legacy devices bought prior to that date.

How Apple Prevented Verizon From Adding Siri To Droid handsets



According to a report from The Huffington Post, Verizon tried to bring Siri’s technology to Droid phones long before Apple bought the voice assistant app.

The carrier signed a contract with the startup company in 2009 to include its functionality to Droid smartphones, and it even filmed commercials showing Siri as an Android add-on. But the deal with Big Red fell apart when Apple purchased what has become one of the iPhone’s most popular features, which subsequently stopped competitors from adding the service to their devices.
