iPhone turns 4 years old today. Happy Birthday iPhone!

happy-birthday

On January 9th 2007 Steve Jobs presented the first ever Apple iPhone to the world. The Apple CEO started off the epic keynote by saying the famous lines, "This is a day, I've been looking forward to for 2 and a half years. Every once in a while, a revolutionary product comes along that changes everything…".

The iPhone launched on June 29, 2007. In its 4 years of existence, the device has changed a lot, starting from iPhone 2G, iPhone 3G and iPhone 3GS and now it is iPhone 4. All these devices were truly revolutionary.

2011 has been an interesting year for the iPhone. In February Apple introduced the Verizon iPhone, ending AT&T 3 year exclusiveness in the US. In April we finally saw the white iPhone 4.

Apple sold close to 20 million iPhones last quarter and the rate is still quite amazing. The company is expected to sell 100 million units of its next-generation iPhone that will be probably released this fall.

Apple indeed "reinvented the phone". The iPhone completely redefined how a "smartphone" should look and act.

How to upgrade to iOS 5 without developer account

update-ios5

  • you cant go back to iOS 4.x once you go to iOS 5
  • Apple will probably fix this soon.

The exploit uses a combination of Voiceover and the pull down notifications to activate the phone. The user that found this exploit says the device continues to work after restarts (so you won’t need to activate it every time you restart). The steps are:

Apple's first CEO, Michael Scott about Apple and Steve Jobs

apple first logo

Business Insider conducted an interview with Apple's first CEO, Michael Scott. Scott revealed some details about the very first days of Apple. There are little interesting details such as the Apple employee numbering scheme, which came out of necessity. Bank of America, where Apple opened its first bank account, required that all employees have numbers for payroll purposes. Scott took number 7, even though chronologically he was Apple's fifth employee: "I was employee number seven, because I wanted number seven... I was 007, of course, as a joke."

OmniVision Introduces 5 MP Sensor With 1080p Video Recording

iPhone-Camera

DigiTimes claimed that the new iPhone 4S would contain an 8 MP camera from OmniVision Technologies, and to some degree it makes sense. Sony’s CEO in April made a fleeting comment suggesting that it would be supplying Apple with an 8MP camera for the next iPhone.

OmniVision  introduced a new 5MP image sensor, the OV5690, that was developed to produce the “best-in-class image quality” whilst being an effective solution for slimmer mobile devices such as smartphones and tablet computers by reducing the size of the camera module. With contradicting reports on whether the next iPhone will contain a 5 MP camera or an 8 MP camera, this new product certainly lends weight to the suggestion that it could have a 5 MP camera.

Microsoft, HTC, Nokia File Complaints Over Apple’s “App Store” Trademark

App-Store

Microsoft, HTC, Nokia and Sony Ericsson filed formal complaints against Apple’s attempt at getting the terms “App Store” and “Appstore” trademarked. In a statement, a Microsoft spokesperson said that Apple’s application was an “unsupportable claim of exclusivity” and noted that the terms “App Store” and “Appstore” are like “toy store” or “book store” – a generic term “that should continue to be available for everyone to use for stores that sell apps.”
