Production issues with new thin display could limit Apple's initial iPad 2 supply

ipad supply

One Wall Street analyst said that Apple’s iPad 2 reportedly may be affected by production difficulties due to some problems with the new ultra-thin glass screen that could result in a limited supply at launch. Although, Apple is not expected to experience delays in launching the iPad 2.

"It appears that Apple is once again pushing the technology envelope by making the device far thinner than the original iPad, and the iPad 2's ultra-thin glass screen is generating yield issues," the analyst wrote. "This appears to be more of a process problem as opposed to a technology problem, and we wouldn't be surprised to see volumes ramp fairly quickly as the process improves."

The new iPad is expected to have a forward-facing camera for FaceTime video chat, faster processor and more RAM, support for both GSM and CDMA wireless technology.

White iPad 2

white-ipad2

Photos of what appears to be a white bezel for the future iPad 2 have been leaked online by 9to5Mac and iFixYouri. Sounds like iPad 2 will be available in white. Current iPad case is made of aluminum, but the front color is black (display and bezel).

The piece that we have (from Shenzhen City), thanks to the folks at the iFixYouri iPhone repair shop, is the "digitizer" sometimes known as the the thick bezel.

Apple is holding a special event on March 2nd at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts at 10:00am local time where they will likely reveal the new iPad 2. The iPad 2 is expected to be thinner, faster, have a camera or even two, work on both GSM and CDMA networks.

iPhone 5 Part Shows Larger Screen, Thinner Bezel

iphone 5

Chinese reseller of Apple parts iDealsChina posted a shot depicting a front bezel of what is claimed to be an "iPhone 5" part. The front panel shows a bigger display that reduces the size of the bezels, especially at the sides. iDealsChina writes:

China’s 1st iPhone 5 photo has surfaced! From this photo it seems that the screen size will be larger than iPhone 4. There has been a lot of speculation about a larger screen and maybe this will be one of the upgrades we will see when iPhone 5 is released this summer.

Gruber: iPad 2 may have a carbon fiber body

fibercase-patent

The author of Daring Fireball blog John Gruber suggested in one of his latest posts that the next-gen iPad will get a carbon fiber body instead of usual aluminum body.

"I could publish things I'm only half-sure about, like the iPad 2 switching from aluminum to a lightweight high-strength carbon fiber body, but I don't, because I'm only half sure and I've only heard about it from second-hand sources who themselves are unsure about it".

iPad 2 Release Delayed From April Until June

ipad

Bloomberg reports that the next-generation iPad might be delayed until June. Such delay might be caused by design changes made by Apple. The design changes that are allegedly causing delays could go from new display technology or Retina Display to rear-facing camera adoption and a Light Peak interface for the new iPad. To tell honestly, “design changes” could mean anything. Moreover, Apple usually releases new iterations of iPhone in June, so June sounds a little strange for the iPad 2. A new iPad in June would have to face the obvious competition generated by the iPhone.

Walmart Sold Man a Fake iPad

One man from Atlanta has recently visited local Walmart store to purchase an iPad, but when he came home he found it was a fake. The thing he bought was of aluminum case with Apple logo and paper homescreen under a fake glass on the front. Most probably it was a store display unit, which shouldn't be sold.

Eventually the man decided to sue Walmart, as the latter doesn't plan to refund him and blames Apple as it is them who handle operations with actual devices and store demo units.

Some local news speculates that the man could purchase a real iPad and then swap it with fake.
