HowTo speed up your iOS 4 on iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G

iPhone 3G and iPod Touch 2G work a bit slow with iOS 4. The video below shows a nice trick that will put the speed back in your device. You need to go do Settings and deselect Spotlight.
On iPod Touch 2G go to Settings – General – Home Button – Spotlight Search. On iPhone 3G go to Settings – General – Spotlight Search. Then uncheck all the searches that you don’t use. This will increase the speed of your device.
This also works on iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4, however the speed increase is very small there.

iOS 4.1 Beta 2 Released
Here’s what hackers say about new firmware iOS 4.0.1
Here’s what hackers tweeted about new Apple firmwares 4.0.1 for iPhones and 3.1.2 for iPad:
As with *any* new FW, jailbreakers + unlockers must avoid this upcoming 4.1 update until our tools are updated
3GS, ipt3G, iPhone4 users (regardless of current FW or JB status) should backup 4..0 SHSH blobs http://is.gd/dskh9 soon
Obviously avoid today’s 4.0.1 update until JB tools are updated. Luckily, no baseband change so ultrasn0w lives on
each FW version has unique blobs. But using http://is.gd/dskh9 you can get 4.0 blobs on PC while you stay at 3.1.2
Hah for those iPhone3G or ipt2g(non-MC) users at 4.1beta1: use redsn0w from 2 wks ago to JB http://is.gd/dstU3

Right: iPhone 3G running iPhone OS 3.1.3 (7E18)

ultrasn0w 0.93 released! Cydia repo is repo666.ultrasn0w.com. Works with basebands 04.26.08 thru 05.13.04
This means, that all users with basebands 04.26.08, 05.11.07, 05.12.01 and 05.13.04 can use ultrasn0w 0.93.

Redsnow 0.9.5.b4 for iPhone Os 4.0 Beta 4 Released
Last week Apple has released its iPhone Os 4.0 beta 4 and redsn0w is finally updated to support this as well as beta 1. New version of jailbreak is 0.9.5.b4 and it can be applied on iPhone 3G only(!).
Redsn0w 0.9.5.b4 is targeted at developers who make jailbroken apps, and will not work if you are already using blacksn0w, ultrasn0w or yellowsn0w.
iPhone Dev-Team warns:
“You should stay clear of this beta software if you rely on a carrier unlock.”
To use the jailbreak, follow the guide below:
- Download redsn0w 0.9.5.b4 here. (Only Mac OS X version since app are developed on this OS).
- Make sure you have already activated your iPhone 3G with iTunes and your own developer ID.
- Launch the jailbreak.
- Select your stock iPhone1,2_4.0_8A274b_Restore.ipsw (beta4) or iPhone1,2_4.0_8A230m_Restore.ipsw (beta1) file that you used to update your firmware.
- Choose “Install Cydia” and then click “Next”. Use DFU mode to install the redsn0w.
- When your iPhone 3G comes back up, you will notice Cydia has a blank white icon. It also has no sources so you should go to the Sources panel and add this repo: http://apt.saurik.com/cydia-3.7 (make sure you are connected to the Internet before). When Cydia restarts, you should see its real logo now, and the standard sources should be ready to use.
iPhone OS 4.0 beta 4 Has Been Released

Today Apple released iPhone OS 4.0 beta 4. New firmware is available for download at its . There is no changelog, but we already have some information about new features in it.
New versions of iPhone OS 4 have spellcheck support
Those developers who study new beta-versions of iPhone OS 4.0 reveal that new firmware has features of suggested word replacement and spellcheck imported from the iPad to the iPod touch and iPhone. They were presented first in iPad which has iPhone OS 3.2.
Spelling system allows users to select a misspelled word with a touch and then choose «Replace…» instead of using copy/paste operations. The word that was misspelled is underlined in red like in Mac OS X or Microsoft Word. After that system offers replacement word suggestions that also can be chosen with only one touch.
Apple announced that iPhone OS 4 will also allow iPod touch and iPhone to support iPad’s Bluetooth keyboard.
iPhone OS 4.0 May Be Brought to iPhone 2G

An unknown group of hackers work now on bringing current beta version of iPhone OS 4 to the iPhone 2G (that was released in 2007). As you remember, Steve Jobs mentioned on his iPhone OS 4 keynote that the system won’t be supported by iPhone 2G due to its low memory and processing power. Hackers also explained what they are working on:
“We are rewriting the 4.0 beta firmware released by Apple to create a custom firmware that can run on devices iPhone 2G which is no longer available. To do this we studied the architecture of the firmware previously released by Apple on the device trying to understand how is it different from the released versions on other devices, in particular that of the iPhone 3G device, which is what most resembles the smartphones”.
According to a shady photo above they’ve already reached success but still there is no relevant information revealed on .
