Digitimes reports that Apple is working with suppliers to develop a new process that will allow to shave 0.15 mm from the thickness of the light guide used to distribute lighting for the company's illuminated keyboard in the MacBook Pro and MacBook Air.
Apple will reduce the thickness of light guide plates for the illuminated keyboards in its MacBook Air and MacBook Pro models from 0.4mm currently to 0.25mm in 2013, according to sources in Apple's supply chain.

The unscientific test carried out by The Mac Observer claims to show significant boost in MacBook battery life using a new developer build 12C35 of OS X Mountain Lion, with the latest beta showing an 85-minute increase from the current 10.8.1.
Using OS X 10.6.8 Snow Leopard as a baseline, the compiled test data showed a significant hit to battery performance with the introductions of 10.7 Lion and 10.8 Mountain Lion. Upon release, Lion lost over 40 minutes of battery life and took three revisions to regain Snow Leopard power efficiency. In contrast, Mountain Lion saw a huge 105 minute loss in battery performance when it was released in July, with the latest 10.8.1 version moving the OS only 30 minutes closer to baseline.
Apple’s iPad mini will reportedly so thin and light that production of the device will be a challenge to a company. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo with KGI Securities claims that the smaller iPad will feature industry leading "GF Ditto," otherwise known as GF2, touchscreen technology. According to the report, Apple wants to make the device that would allow viewers to watch any TV show at any moment through a cloud-based DVR service that would store shows online. This service would allow viewers to stream a show within minutes after it started airing live.
“Another significant feature of the Apple set-top device is likely to be its user interface, which could resemble the navigation icons on Apple's iPad. While the design may change, the interface is expected to be easier for people to use than existing cable on-screen menus, widely viewed as clunky.
Apple's device also may create space on the TV screen for social media features, such as sharing TV shows through services like Twitter Inc., the people said”.
Also Apple wants that users can transfer content from the device on iPhones, iPads and other Apple products.
The WSJ says that Apple has been in negotiations with cable providers like Time Warner Cable and Comcast, and with companies that control TV content. The report notes that terms of existing agreements between content and cable companies might not allow them to seal a deal for using Apple’s devices without permission of content owners.
