PingDom: Android is the leading OS only in South Korea

MobileOS.globe

As you may know, today's StatCounter published its fresh report based on web analytics about mobile users. Unfortunately, StatCounter can monitor only web traffic, but not the way the smartphones are being used. However, the results of such research can offer many different data that can be organized in different ways.

For example, a vendor of network server monitoring tools Pingdom also took the Statcounter's results but analyzed only mobile OS usage, including the stats for iPod touch (iPad wasn't included). It was found that though the sales of Android-based smartphones have overtaken the sales of the iPhone in the US, such a statement does not take into account the fact that iPod touch is the most popular portable media player, and it is also based on iOS, which makes the latter the most popular mobile OS in the country.

New Cydia v1.0.3366-1 is added to iPhoneRoot repo

iphoneroot-repo

We have already written about new Cydia version 1.0.3366-1 that was released recently. It is much faster and has many new other improvements.

The problem was that to install it users had to download deb package, install it manually in terminal, etc. It was hard. We have decided to make Cydia update easy, so we have added Cydia v1.0.3366-1 to our repository. To update Cydia just add our repository in Cydia: http://iphoneroot.com/repo/ and update.

To add repository run Cydia. Go to Manage -> Sources. Click Edit (top right corner), after that click Add (top left corner), type http://iphoneroot.com/repo/ and click Add Source button. Then click Return to Cydia and Done button. After that you can either click on iphoneroot.com select Cydia and install it or go to Changes and update it there.

Tutorial how to add iphoneroot repo with screenshots is available here.

New version of Cydia 1.0.3366-1 is ready

cydia3366

The new version 1.0.3366-1 of Cydia  is ready.

Commenting on the release Saurik said:

some of my long term performance plans are 'hitting pay dirt', and Cydia is much faster than it was before; that said, it isn't done yet: there's one more thing that I think is going to make a huge difference that isn't even in there yet but should be for the final release.

This version of Cydia is included in the latest release of RedSn0w, and can also be downloaded as deb file from here. But if you're on an iPhone 4 or other already jailbroken device, you can still install it. There are 4 different ways to do that:

iPhone Dev-Team releases RedSn0w 0.9.6b5 for unlockers

redsn0w-096b5

The iPhone Dev-Team has released RedSn0w 0.9.6b5 for unlockers stuck at the 05.14 or 05.15 basebands.

The new redsn0w 0.9.6beta5 is out.  It gives both Windows and OSX users the ability to flash the iPad 06.15 baseband on iPhone3G or iPhone3GS.  It fetches the baseband files directly from Apple for now (the only IPSW you ever point it at is the stock IPSW for the FW on your iPhone right now).  There may be a long delay while it’s doing this (their servers are currently getting pounded).

You can download the new version of RedSn0w here:

Windows 7 and Vista users, please run redsn0w as Administrator in "XP Compatiblity Mode".

We will soon post step-by-step tutorials.

UPDATE: tutorial for iPhone 3G (Windows), tutorial for iPhone 3GS (Windows)

UPDATE: Please, consider reading our Jailbreak & Unlock FAQ, especially if you have questions or troubles.

UPDATE: Please, consider reading our Jailbreak & Unlock FAQ, especially if you have questions or troubles.
