Apple Asking Developers to Submit iOS 5 Apps Ahead of October 12th Release

ios5 apps

Yesterday Apple announced that iOS 5 would be released on October 12th and seeded the Golden Master copy of the new software to iOS developers. And now the company is asking their developers to start submitting iOS 5 applications for the App Store ahead of official release of the software.

This gives developers a chance to test better their applications and make necessary improvements before the final shipping of iOS 5 version of the applications. Noteworthy, Apple has already been approving many iOS 5 applications.

iOS 5 is promised to deliver over 200 new features and will be compatible with  the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad 2, iPad, and the 3rd and 4th generation iPod touches.

An A5 Powered iPhone Will Have Much Faster Graphics Performance

a5bench

The most part of rumors about the next generation iPhone was focused on its external redesign. But the one thing we almost definitely sure in is that the next iPhone will have the much faster dual-core A5 processor with a much faster graphics processing unit (GPU). The A5 chip is implemented in the iPad 2 that was released in March. Apple claims that the graphics performance of the iPad 2 is up to nine times faster than the graphics performance of the original A4-powered iPad. The recent graphics performance benchmark tests, conducted by Anandtech, (see above) demonstrate how much faster A5's GPU as compared to the A4, suggesting how much faster will be iPhone powered by A5.

Brazil’s $12 Billion iPad Deal Is “In Doubt”

ipad 2

According to Reuters, the $12 billion deal between Brazil and Foxconn to produce Apple’s iPad in a new Brazil-based Foxconn factory is now in doubt. It seems that negotiations between Brazilian government and the iPad-manufacturer have temporarily stalled. The main reasons are high taxes and lack of skilled workers that meet Faxconn expectations.

"We’re dealing with a lot of issues, like the (Taiwanese) trying to figure out how to do business in Brazil … and Brazil figuring out how to produce these complicated products,” a second government official told Reuters. Maybe we will end up starting with something smaller.

Start of production was already put off twice. We see that it still unclear whether the company will manufacture any Apple tablets in this country. As far as we know, Foxconn would like to build a new industrial complex with its own energy system, roads and infrastructure outside Sao Paolo. But the situation is complicated by the fact that the Brazilian government is now engaged in building more profitable $1 trillion projects related to the World Cup and the Summer Olympics the country will host in 2014 and 2016. The other problem includes lack of companies to partner with Foxconn in order to share costs in Brazil.

It’s a requirement to have Brazilian partners, (but) in the technology area the partners we have do not have the financial muscle for investments near that value.

Photo: iPhone 5 will have A5 processor and 1430 mAh battery

Apple-iPhone-A5-chipset

The photo above was posted on Chinese site Weibo. It shows what is thought to be components of Apple’s yet to be released next-gen iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S.

We can see the already familiar to us Apple dual core "A5" CPU, just like in iPad 2. However the chipset is not from an iPad 2 since it looks rather different. The layout looks more like the current iPhone 4′s A4 chipset. The visible part of the battery reads “430 mAh”, which leads us to believe that next iPhone will have 1430 mAh battery, which is slightly better than the iPhone 4′s 1420 mAh battery.

Unfortunately there is no proof this photo is real. One more reason to be skeptical - the photo is quite blur, while we can see A5 very well. What do you think, Fake or not?

Take a look at more comparison pictures:

There will be an untethered iOS 5 jailbreak

MyGreatFest

Hackers from the Chronic Dev Team recently announced that they have found 5 userland exploits in iOS 5. To us this means that it is very likely that an untethered jailbreak will be available for the upcoming firmware release.

P0sixninja made the announcement at MyGreatFest jailbreak conference held in London, England.

While this is a "record breaking number of exploits found", userland exploits can be easily fixed via a minor software update. The exploits are kept in secret, so hopefully Apple won't fix them before the expected iOS 5 launch next month.

The jailbreak is expected for all devices, including iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPad, iPad 2, iPod Touch and even future iPhone 4S and iPhone 5.

iPad 3 to Carry Thinner and Lighter Battery

ipad_2_battery1

Apple reportedly has made a deal with Simplo and Dynapack to produce and supply a thinner and lighter battery for the iPad 3. Such battery means that the company may work on the iPad with a potentially thicker high-resolution Retina display. The cost of new batteries is 20-30% higher that the current iPad batteries but provides longer service life and higher safety.  Mass production of such batteries are planed on the first quarter of the next year.

With the upcoming iPad 3 to feature a thinner, lighter battery module that is widely believed to be priced 20-30% higher than iPad 2’s, Simplo Technology Co. and Dynapack International Technology Corp., both Apple Inc.’s contract suppliers of iPad and Macbook battery packs, will hence secure a surefire profit drive for the near future.

Institutional investors pointed out that the battery pack for iPad 3, scheduled to be massively produced in the first quarter of next year, has been redesigned to be thinner and lighter with a longer service life than iPad 2 edition’s.
