iPhone 4 Coming to Verizon on Feb. 10

Today Apple has finally announced that the iPhone 4 will come to Verizon on Feb. 10 with a new two year customer agreement at a price of 199$ for 16GB version and $299 in case you'd like to have 32Gb model.

The phone may be preordered starting from Feb. 3, and a week later it will appear both in Verizon and Apple stores. That was reported at Tuesday's press conference in New York City, where Verizon COO Lowell McAdam was happy to declare the beginning of collaboration with Apple:

Verizon iPhone may appear on Feb. 3

According to a source ‘close to Apple’, the latter prohibited its retail employees to take vacations between Feb.3 and Feb. 6, Boy Genius Report revealed yesterday. That allows to suggest that the company prepares to unveil its Verizon iPhone on Feb. 3. Previously AppleInsider had also received information that Apple will not allow to take vacations for some retail employees in the last week of January and first half of February.

Though the iPhone 4 was also unveiled on a Thursday (June 24, 2010), the date of the new iPhone launch isn’t confirmed yet.

Skype Video Calling for iOS over Wi-Fi and 3G Now Available



As expected, Skype unleashed version 3.0 of the Skype App for iOS. An update allows iOS Skype users make Skype to Skype video calls over WiFi and 3G. The new video conferencing feature works between capable iOS devices as well as desktop machines. Two-way video calls are only supported on the iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and fourth-generation iPod touch, while iPad and third-generation iPod touch users can receive video calls. Users can make video calls in portrait or landscape mode. Skype video calling requires iOS 4.0 or above.

Skype Video Calling Coming to iPhone

Skype has had an iPhone application since early 2009. Put video calling wasn’t available there till the present moment. But the company has to roll out video calling for the iPhone or other mobile platforms. Skype is rumored to announce video calling support for the iPhone and iPod touch at CES 2011 early next month. The company has told that it is going to make a series of announcements concerning video calling at CES. Moreover, Skype will be participating in a panel called “Video Calling Gets Ready for Primetime”.

Untethered iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak for iPhone 4 next week



MuscleNerd from iPhone DevTeam tweeted that an untethered jailbreak solution for iOS 4.2.1 will be released soon, probably next week.

Zuckerberg Became a Time's Person of the Year, Jobs Listed as a Person Who Mattered

Canadа: iBookstore Has Been Approved, iPhone Can Be Unlocked

According to MacNN, yesterday The Ministry of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages announced that it had granted formal approval of the iBookstore. Its Minister James Moore positively commented this decision:

"Our Government is committed to strengthening Canada's economy through all its sectors, especially arts and culture. Apple has demonstrated how iBookstore Canada represents new opportunities for Canadian authors and publishers, and I have determined that this investment will be of net benefit to Canada."

DevTeam Successfully Untethers iPhone iOS 4.2.1 Jailbreak

Currently iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak for iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS new bootrom, iPad, iPod 3G/4G is a tethered jailbreak. That means if you have to reboot your device, it will show a "connect to itunes" logo until you run the jailbreak software again. Musclenerd from iPhone DevTeam has announced that untethered jailbreak for iPhone iOS 4.2.1 is ready. Unfortunately this will be only for those who saved 4.2b3 SHSH keys via Cydia or tinyumbrella.

Got "backup plan" for untethered 4.2.1 JB working (video coming up). Uses mysterious 4.2b3 hashes Cydia kept for you.

iPhone 4 is the most difficult product to buy in China

Ticongera Securities analyst Brian White provided another update for investors while touring the Far East. In his note he says that iPhone 4, iPad and 11-inch MacBook Air are the most difficult products to purchase in China.

Local carrier China Unicom cannot fulfill almost a third of preorders, and people wait for their devices for around two months. That creates wide growth opportunities in China, and White says Apple's interest in this market is definitely positive.

Apple Confirms the White iPhone 4 is Coming in Spring 2011

Some new promo materials appeared in Apple Stores around the United State. They have an interesting signage which claims that the white iPhone 4 will be available Spring 2011. That confirms an earlier report.  Though, we may hear rumors about the fifth-generation iPhone handset, which also is expected to be released spring 2011. Steve Jobs will most likely announce the device at WWDC ’11. Many believe that Apple sooner will simply release a modified version of the iPhone 4 or a white version of its fifth-generation handset than the white iPhone 4.

iPhone 4 No. 1, iPad No. 3 on Top 10 Obsessions of 2010

Yahoo! has placed the iPhone 4 on the top of obsessions of 2010 and the iPad is the number 3. Facebook came in at number 6. Though, the numbers are not a huge surprise. What is surprising is that the iPhone 4 became the first number after early controversy of the lost/stolen prototype and rumored “Antennagate”. Despite of all doubts the iPhone 4 is the most popular smartphones of the year in terms of sales and reviews.

HTC stated the problem of 'death grip' in HD7 is negligible




According to Computer Weekly, yesterday HTC released a statement as a response to YouTube videos, which show that the company's newly released HD7 smartphone also loses signal strength when is being gripped in a certain way. However, it looks like Taiwanese handset maker doesn't take it seriously:

Apple Reportedly Selects Camera Lens Supplier for Second-Generation iPad

Last week we reported that the next iPad will be equipped with a gyroscope, a Retina Display and USB ports and it’s very likely will get FaceTime capabilities with a front-facing camera. Unfortunately, there is no mention of how many megapixels the cameras might be. So, resent rumor claims that Apple already selected the camera lens maker for the iPad 2.  As expected, such suppler might be the Taiwanese company called Largan Precision. Largan reportedly supplies 5-megapixel lenses for the iPhone 4. It’s also unknown whether the company was selected to ship a VGA front-facing camera, a higher resolution rear one or both.
