Apple TV iOS 4.1 firmware is available for download

iPhone developer, chpwn has just provided a very interesting link via Twitter, a download for the Apple TV iOS 4.1 firmware.

You can download Apple TV iOS 4.1 here. There is not much use of it currently, however it does give hackers a possibility to analyze it.

Jailbreak iOS 4.1 with RedSn0w 0.9.6 b1

redsn0w-0-9-6-b1

DevTeam recently released new version of redsn0w to jailbreak iOS 4.1. New RedSn0w 0.9.6 b1 supports iOS 4.0 and iOS 4.1 running on iPhone 3G or iPod touch 2G.

There is only Mac OS X x86 version, that you can download here.

Redsn0w is easy to use:

  1. Download firmware here.
  2. Launch redsn0w 0.9.6 b1
  3. Select your stock 4.1 or 4.0 ipsw (you’ve already used this to update your device to 4.1 or  4.0)
  4. Select “Install Cydia” and any of the other options shown above, then click “Next”.  Use DFU mode to install the jailbreak.

As usual DevTeam reminds us:

IF YOU USE THE ULTRASN0W UNLOCK, PLEASE WAIT FOR PWNAGETOOL TO SUPPORT 4.1.  DO NOT USE REDSN0W

That’s because to use redsn0w at 4.1, you need to already have updated to official 4.1 from Apple.  If you do that, you lose the ultrasn0w unlock (possibly forever).

Apple looking to hire iBookstore marketing manager

1Apple has posted a new job listing looking for a marketing manager specifically for the iBookstore. The listing seeks an experienced business marketer "to drive awareness and sales of iBooks through co-marketing programs with publishers and authors, strategic partnerships, and via online and direct marketing tactics." It seems like a lot of the position will be self-driven, as whoever's chosen will be asked to come up with some interesting schemes to push iBook sales, both with publishers, and even across the other divisions of iTunes. But the bottom line is of course sales -- Apple wants someone to push iBooks, specifically in the US.

iPad shipping time has gone down to 24h

ipad_shipping

Both iPad Wi-Fi + 3G and iPad Wi-Fi can now be shipped in 24 hours, as is listed at Apple’s online store. And it concerns not just the US but also international stores in the UK and Canada.

Ever since its launch, the supplies of Apple’s new device, proclaimed “magical and revolutionary”, have been very low. This lead to delays in rollouts and rumors said that the reason was the IPS panels which just couldn’t be produced fast enough for the demand.

Either the demand slowed, or the production finally rose. We’ll find that out with the next quarter’s results.

Next-Generation Apple TV

We've gotten some information that Apple plans to rename the Apple TV into "iTV", which was initially named as "iTV" in September 2006, but changed the name to "Apple TV" for its launch in January 2007. Apparently the box won't be capable of handling 1080p video. Instead it will only push out 720p clips. Moreover, video experts note that the difference in resolution is not visible to users at a normal TV viewing distance unless the screen is larger than 55 inches. The device will be getting apps and presumably an App Store entry.

iTV well be running iOS that means that it will get access to iTunes. By converting Apple TV into an iOS device, the company could erect a third new wing of apps in iTunes. This smaller, cheaper device will probably use network streaming rather than Apple TV's hard drive for local storage.

Are We Going to Get 7-Inch And 9.7-inch iPad In 2011?

It is much of a rumor that there is going to appear a new iPad sporting a 7-inch display. Now Digitimes specifies the possible features that this Apple device may get.

It is that at the beginning of 2011 Apple is going to launch an upgraded iPad with 9.7-inch display that will feature 512MB of RAM and a new processor based on ARM Cortex-A9. The 7-inch iPad will use an IPS panel having 1024 x 768 resolution and a similar processor.

Except the introduction of the iPad, it is rumored that in December we’ll get a CDMA iPhone. It is going to be supplied to China Telecom and Verizon Wireless. Evidently it will feature an integrated antenna and a metal backplate.
