Apple Planning Entirely New Mac Product Line

mac_lineup

Japanese site Macotakara reports that Apple may be planning on unveiling an all new Mac that is “absolutely different from current products” and potentially set for introduction by the end of the year. The site also claims that  the product will be so different from current product lines that it will indeed be given a new name.

According to anonymous source in Asian supplier company, Apple seems to be preparing project to release new Mac line-up which is absolutely different from current products until end of this year.

Though this source does not told in detail, this new Mac line seems to be clearly different products from current ones, so new product name could be given.

It’s a possibility these are the ultra-thin air-like MacBooks, or perhaps Apple is designing an all new product that will see a platform switch from Intel to ARM processors.

Early Earthquake Warning System in iOS 5 for Japanese Users

quakewarning

References to a "Quake Alert" notification was found in iOS 5 for Japanese users. It seems that Apple has added a new early earthquake warning notification option to iOS 5, following the devastating earthquake in Japan earlier this year.  So, Japanese users will be able to turn on early earthquake notifications at the very bottom of the iOS 5 Notification Center settings pane. The system gives warnings from seconds to one or two minutes before the earthquake hits.

Japan has the most advanced earthquake early-warning system in the world. A nationwide online system launched in 2007, it detects tremors, calculates an earthquake’s epicenter and sends out brief warnings from its 1,000-plus seismographs scattered throughout the country, one of the most earthquake-prone nations on the planet.

Next MacBook Air to Adopt Faster, More Power Efficient SSD

chip

The Japanese website Macotakara claims that the new MacBook Air will include SSD drive with adopted a new Toggle DDR 2.0 type of NAND Flash Memory.

Current SSD device Blade X-gale supporting SATA 2.6 will be abolished and new 19nm flash memory will be packaged into smaller chip and will be soldered on base circuit directly.

The new Flash chips will be built directly in the MacBook Air's motherboard; they support speeds of 400Mb/s, and will allow future controllers to run faster than today’s SSDs with "half the number of channels, providing both a cost and space savings", and could improve battery life for an hour or more.

The resulting power throttling capability enables the drive’s high-performance levels without any increase in power consumption over a 40nm-class 16Gb NAND-based 256GB SSD. The controller also analyzes frequency of use and preferences of the user to automatically activate a low-power mode that can extend a notebook’s battery life for an hour or more.

Apple Testing an ARM (A5) Powered MacBook Air

macbook air a5

Japanese blog Macotakara  in its latest story claims that an A5-powered MacBook Air with Thunderbolt I/O is being tested in Apple’s labs. The machine could be manufactured by Quanta Computer, the story has it. The article quotes a source who allegedly saw an early prototype:

According to this source who saw live A5 MacBook Air actually, this test machine performed better than expected. Though it’s not clear which Mac OS X or iOS is pre-installed on this A5 MacBook Air, iOS seems to have difficulty to use features of Thunderbolt without Finder. And even if Mac OS X is installed, developer should spend time to support A5 on Universal Binary Applications. As considering these situation, this A5 MacBook Air seems to be made just for experiment.

This news comes weeks after another rumor claiming that Apple is planning on transitioning from Intel to ARM-based processors on their laptops in the not too distant future. Another major issue is that while ARM processors are more power efficient, they presently offer significantly lower performance than their Intel counterparts.
