Apple Is Investing $3M To Open Its First Retail Location In Indonesia





NZWeek reports (via TNW) that Apple is planning to offer direct online sales in Indonesia and to open up its first brick-and-mortar store in the capital city, Jakarta. Today the Investment Coordinating Board (BKPM) in Indonesia announced that it has approved the application filed by Apple to open up a online shop in the country. Also the report claimed that Apple is going to invest 2-3 million U.S. dollars to open its first retail location in Jakarta.

LG Bumped Apple To 3rd Place In US Handset Market



Recently the iPhone have captured a record 53 percent of the smartphone market in the U.S, but when it comes to its second place in the handset market (feature phones and smartphones combined), a new report said LG moved Apple to third place during December thanks to strong sales of its highly popular Optimus G.

Apple Rumored To Release 4.8-Inch iPhone Math In June



According to China Times’ report translated by BrightWire, Apple is preparing to launch the iPhone 5S along with a larger phone called "iPhone Math".

The iPhone Math is highly unusual name that does not conform to Apple's traditional naming scheme, so it is unclear if it is a code name of the device or a potential mistranslation.

How And Why Steve Jobs Bought Lala



A former Color employee Aubrey Johnson shares a story about Apple's acquisitions of Lala and Color, which both were founded by Bill Nguyen.

Lala's music was streamed over the Internet instead of stored locally. The service allowed users to listen to a collection of more than 7 million titles as a stream over the Internet – much like Spotify and Pandora today. Users could also buy and download songs usually for a lower price than Apple’s iTunes was offering.

Amazon optimizes its MP3 store to attract customers using iOS devices.



Today, Amazon announced about optimization of the music store for Safari app on iOS devices. This move is the company's desire to dominate the digital music market.

"Since the launch of the Amazon Cloud Player app for iPhone and iPod touch, a top request from customers has been the ability to buy music from Amazon right from their devices. For the first time ever, iOS users have a way do that – now they can access Amazon’s huge catalog of music, features like personalized recommendations, deals like albums for $5, songs for $0.69, and they can buy their music once and use it everywhere,” said Steve Boom, Vice President of Amazon Music.

Facebook Messenger application now allows to make voice calls for the United States accounts



This month, Facebook updated the Messenger app for iOS with beta support for VoIP calls between Facebook accounts. This feature was originally limited to Canadian iOS accounts but now is being opened to all United States accounts, reports The Verge.

AT&T previously announces the results of iPhone sales in the fourth quarter of 2012

Apple's fiscal Q1 2013 earnings conference call set for Jan. 23



Apple announced on Wednesday that it will reveal results for the first fiscal quarter of 2013 on January 23 at 2:00 p.m. Pacific/5:00 p.m. Eastern. In the fourth quarter of 2012, Apple saw a 25 percent boost in profits thanks to strong sales of 44 million iDevices, including 26.9 million iPhones, for the three month period. Revenue for fiscal 2012 reached over $156 billion on sales of more than 200 million iOS devices, 18 million Macs, and 35 million iPods.

Apple Will Shift Mac mini Production To U.S.



According to a report from DigiTimes, Apple plans to move production of the Mac mini (not the Mac Pro as previously speculated) to the U.S. The report said:

“Apple is reportedly set to move its Mac mini production lines back to the US with Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) to be responsible of handling establishment, according to sources from the upstream supply chain”.

Apple Exploring Possibility Of Using IGZO Displays In iPad, iPhone And iPad mini



According to a new report from DigiTimes, Apple is exploring the possibility of using IGZO displays in the iPad, iPad mini and iPhone in 2013. The report notes:

“The sources said Apple is in further discussions with Sharp over IGZO panel production capacity estimates for 2013 and is also inquiring about whether AU Optronics' (AUO) L5C line could be used to produce the technology”.

In China Number Of 3G Subscribers Grew 88% Year Over Year



This week analyst Brian White from Topeka Capital provided a closer look at the latest statistics on mobile subscribers in China, noting that total number of 3G subscribers in this country reached 222 million last month, up 88% year over year. He also noted that 3G subscriber growth in China Mobile has been slowed because the company does not offer iPhones.

Steve Jobs' "Venus" is no longer impounded



Last Friday, it was noted that the Jobs family's new yacht had been confiscated by the authorities of the Netherlands as a result of the dispute over design payment in favor of the famous French designer Philippe Starck. Stark asserted that he should have received the payment in the amount of 9 million euros for designing yacht, however the Jobs family reported that agreed rate was equal to 6% of the yacht valued in the 105 million euros. Stark said that his fee will be lower by about 3 million euro.
