Samsung to Produce 75% of A9 Chips for New iPhones and iPads

About a month ago, a rumor appeared on the Internet, which suggested that Samsung will become Apple's primary A9 chip supplier. Although this rumor contradicted with previous reports from reliable insiders, who believed both Samsung and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) would supply the company from Cupertino with chips for next-generation iPhones and iPads, it looked quite plausible.

Yesterday, a new report from a South Korean newspaper called Maeil Business was spotted on the Net. According to this report, Samsung will get 75% of orders for the production of the A9 chip. The same report also notes that the processor for the new iPhone and probably iPad Air and iPad mini may be manufactured at the factory in Austin, Texas.

Half of Devices Activated During Christmas Week Were Apple Devices

According to the latest report from a research firm Flurry, more than a half of new mobile devices activated during the Christmas week were Apple’s iPhones. This means that the sales results of the holiday quarter will surely please the guys from Cupertino.

To be precise, I should say that Apple accounted for 51.3% of new smartphone activations in the period of time between December 19th and December 25th. As to the closest rivals, they include Samsung with 17.7%, Nokia with 5.8%, Sony with 1.6% and LG with 1.4% of activated devices. As you may see in the chart below, the gap between Apple and its rival from South Korea is massive.

iOS 8.1.1 Slightly Improves Performance of iPhone 4S and iPad 2

As you probably know, after the release of iOS 8 back in September, many iPhone 4S users began reporting various performance issues. On Monday, Apple released iOS 8.1.1, which, according to the release notes, was expected to improve performance on older devices, namely, the iPhone 4S and the iPad 2. As noted by the researchers from Ars Technica, the latest version of Apple's mobile operating system does improve the stability and performance of the older handsets and tablets, however, only slightly. Moreover, average users are very unlikely to notice these improvements as nearly all the build-in apps still work slower than that of iOS 7.

Apple Releases Glitchy OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 Beta to Developers

Apple has recently seeded the first beta of OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 to developers for testing. The release of this version of Apple's operating system for Macs comes just three days after the official public release of OS X 10.10.1 that contained stability and performance improvements as well as some bug fixes.

What is important about the latest beta is that it contains bugs, which cause constant crashes of Google Chrome browser as well as Retina iMac graphics issues. That is why I suggest that you shouldn't upgrade to this version, especially if you plan to install it on your main computer.

Looks like this is another minor update aimed at making the mobile operating system more stable. What is also interesting about iOS 8.1.1 is that it reportedly kills Pangu untethered jailbreak, so if you want to keep your device jailbroken, stay away from this software update.
