Apple Stores Siri Voice Clips For Up To Two Years
Wired yesterday that the American Civil Liberties Union was posing questions about Siri's privacy policies, citing privacy statements claiming that older "disassociated" voice input data would be retained for "period of time" even if a user turn off Siri on his or her device.
"It's not clear what 'disassociated' means. It's not clear what 'period of time' means. It's not clear what using it to 'generally improve Siri and other Apple products and services' means," says Nicole Ozer, a lawyer with the ACLU. "The only thing that's clear is we really don't know what may be happening to the personal information we have told Siri, even after we turn Siri off."
Cydia Сounts 18 Million Jailbroken Devices in Six Weeks
Saurik reports that about 18 million devices were counted by Cydia in the last six weeks, between untethered jailbreak release and iOS 6.1.3 which blocks this jailbreak. According to Forbes:
In the six weeks since evasi0n was released, however, close to 18 million devices have already been jailbroken, according to data from Jay Freeman, the administrator of the Cydia app store for jailbroken devices. He says he’s counted 18.2 million unique devices running iOS 6 visiting Cydia, including 13.8 million iPhones, 3.4 million iPads, and 1.1 million iPod Touches. Those numbers vastly exceed previous jailbreaks such as Jailbreakme 3, a popular hacking tool for iOS released in the summer of 2011 that was used on around 2 million devices, according to a count at the time by creator Nicholas Allegra.
Samsung Outpaced Apple In Connected Device Market
Market intelligence firm IDC a report on what it describes as the Smart Connected Device Market. The graphic created by the company shows the market share decrease for both laptops (from 29% in 2010 to 17% in 2012) and desktop PCs (from 23% to 12%), while smartphones grew from 45% to 60% and tablets from 3% to 11%. Overall, the PCs’ market share fall from about 50% to 30% in just two years.
Apple Said Nearly 300 Million Devices Are Running iOS 6
Today, Apple an iOS 6.1 press release revealing some impressive numbers on iOS platform and iOS 6.1 usage. As of today, 300 million iOS devices – iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone – are running iOS 6, with 450 billion iMessages sent, over four trillion notifications received and nine billion photos uploaded to Photo Stream.
In Q4 2012 Android And iOS Captured Record 92% Of Global Smartphone Market
According to the Strategy Analytics’ measuring global smartphone OS shipments for the fourth quarter of 2012, Android and iOS together represented 92% of all shipments. Both operating systems were able to considerably increase their market shares over Q3, with global smartphone shipments over the year reaching a record 700.1 million units.

IDG News Service reports that Kariem McFarlin, the robber who stole Apple products and other items of equivalent value at $ 60.000 from the home of Steve Jobs' family in last July, has been sentenced to seven years in prison. McFarlin broke into the house, which was in repairing, and stole two iMacs, three iPads, three iPods, Apple TV, jewelry and other items.
Sharp reduces the iPad display production, because of lower consumer demand
Reuters reports that Sharp, one of the major partners that produce displays for Apple`s mobile devices, has reduced the production of displays for iPad at one of its plants. Sources do not indicate the reasons for the dramatic reduction, but it seems to be a combination of decreasing consumer interest to the iPad mini and the natural seasonal downturn.
Oracle Released Java 7 Update 11 To Fix Security Vulnerability
On Friday, we reported that Apple had used its anti-malware system in OS X in order to disable Java 7 browser plug-in over a security vulnerability that was widely exploited in the wild.
Apple's anti-malware tool is able to enforce minimum version numbers for such plug-ins as Flash and Java, and the company simply updated its blacklist to require that computers be running higher version of Java 7 than was publicly available.

According to a from research company Retail Sails (via ), Apple again tops the U.S. retail store chains with the highest sales numbers per square foot. Company’s sales productivity is estimated at more than $6000 per square foot, twice as much as the sales of Tiffany & Co that took the second place.
Apple Announced 3M New iPads Sold During The First Weekend
Today Apple that it sold 3 million new iPads in the first three days, doubling its last year’s record of 1.5 million iPad 3s sold during the first weekend. Of course, these numbers do not include cellular iPad models, but Apple said that those models would ship in a few weeks in many countries later this year. CEO Tim Cook said:

AppleInsider and 9to5Mac independently posted a list of 24 different model numbers said to be for Apple's "iPad mini" scheduled for introduction at a media event next Tuesday.
According to the list, the iPad Mini will be available in four basic device variants P101, P103, P105, and P107
that presumably correspond to different hardware models (Wifi, 3G, LTE, etc). Each of those four variants is available in three different flavors designated "GOOD", "BETTER", and "BEST" - these ones refer to three different capacities (anything between 8 and 64 Gb). The A/B designations would continue to refer to two color options.
Charging The iPhone 5 Costs About $0.41 A Year
Today energy efficiency company Opower a study estimating the annual cost for charging the new iPhone 5 at $0.41. While a user’s actual cost varies based on electricity rates in their regions and on use, the company's estimate assumes that a user charges the device once per day at 11.8 cents per kWh (U.S. average).
Although an individual iPhone 5 consumes a tiny amount of energy, the great popularity of Apple’s smartphones results in considerable energy demand in total. The company notes:

Retina MacBook Pro Users Still Complaining of Image Persistence
Back in late June,early purchasers of Apple's Retina MacBook Pro reported on the image persistence caused by some production issues. Having used a device for a certain period of time, they noticed its screen became vaguely and left traces of previous images.
Apple replaced the defective devices. DisplayMate’s Ray Soneira has mentioned the persistence was caused by early production issue, but three months later, users still complain of the released product’s “ghosting” issue. A lot of messages were posted on MacRumors' forums and at Apple Support Communities which are largely reported on the issues related to the LG displays and experienced by the manufacturer. Samsung Displays were not affected by the issue.
Analyst Expects iPhone 5 Sales Will Hit 8 Million Units In Opening Weekend
