Apple Announces Major iTunes Update Coming Next Month
During yesterday’s special media event Apple unveiled a radically redesigned version of iTunes for Mac and PC featuring a "dramatically simpler" interface. Khan Academy Releases iPad App With Access To Large Collection Of Educational Videos
Even though there are several unofficial apps available in the App Store allowing you to access content found in the Khan Academy, the education portal has released an official app for iPad. The app is available for free at and it provides access to more than 2,700 educational videos covering many different subjects from finance and history, to science and K-12 math.

iTunes had for a long time been the only marketplace for iOS-device owners as third-party storefronts was prohibited by Apple’s rules. Giving way to government regulators, Apple last year changed its policy related to third-party stores and allowed subscriptions. This opened the way for music apps from Shazam and Spotify that have recently appeared on the iOS platfrorm. Currently another major music service is going to compete with iTunes.

Apple To Pay $8M For Violating iPod Playlist Patent
According to Bloomberg , based on the information from the lawyer for plaintiff Personal Audio, a jury found that Apple had indeed violated two patents relating to downloadable playlists for iPods. Coby Electronics, Sirius XM Radio and Archos were also included in the suit, but they resolve the dispute out of the court last year.
New patent application reveals a spiral Cover Flow UI for music selection
Another Apple's patent application had been unveiled this week by the U.S. Patent and trademark Office. It is entitled "User Interface for Media Playback" and describes a new UI for browsing music albums on the iPhone and other touch-based devices.
The technology uses the idea of Cover Flow interface, which allows users to flip through album art and select the desired music, but now albums are proposed to be moved in a spiral form, not horizontally.

Apple releases iTunes 10.0.1, gives Ping a boost

iTunes 10.0.1 makes it easier to share your favorite music with your friends on Ping. You can now Like or Post about music right from your iTunes library. You can also easily see the recent activity of a selected artist in your library, or of all artists and friends you follow on Ping using the new Ping Sidebar.
