Reading List Brings Offline Reading To Recent Mountain Lion Builds

safari-reading-list

Reading List is definitely a good alternative to such third party apps as Readability, Pocket and Instapaper for Safari users. Reading List allows users to save links and sync them across Mac and iOS devices for later reading. The feature has been expected to appear in Safari on Mountain Lion, and it seems the Reading List finally landed. Today Gear Live reported that Reading List was enabled in recent Mountain Lion builds. However offline reading is not available for iOS devices for now.

Quick info about iOS 5.1.1 Untethered Jailbreak

musclenerd

MuscleNerd from the iPhone Dev-Team has posted some details on the upcoming untethered jailbreak from pod2g.

  • All info below is tentative and subject to last minute refinements
  • @pod2g's 5.1.1 jailbreak+untether is working out great. All devices are covered except for AppleTV3,1, which currently has no path for jailbreaking.
    - the initial 5.1.1 plan used a kernel exploit from @westbaer which unfortunately precluded use in iPod3,1 and iPhone2,1
    - @planetbeing stepped up and provided a kernel exploit that covers both of those. Those two JBers are the bomb!
  • The 5.1.1 A5 JB is very similar to the A5 5.0.1 JB. @pimskeks has done a tremendous job supporting both 5.0.1 and 5.1.1 in absinthe
  • Similar to 5.0.1, there will also be a 5.1.1 CLI "cinject" binary and redsn0w version of the 5.1.1 JB+untether. Absinthe, cinject, and redsn0w will all provide the same JB in different fashions.
    - timing is indeterminate. Plans are for this week, but a number of factors can influence that.
  • For those wishing to donate, we've set up a new 5.1.1 paypal URL: https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=4U6DQGJ2NRVUN
  • Please don't pirate AppStore apps (seriously, please do not).

Apple ordering screens sized at least 4" for next iPhone

iphone6

The Wall Street Journal reported on Wednesday that Apple began placing orders for a new, larger screen (it will measure "at least 4 inches diagonally") for the next iPhone. Production of the screens is set to begin in the next few months.

Rumors have suggested for some time that the next iPhone will be a major redesign, overhauling the look of the handset that has remained since the launch of the iPhone 4 in mid-2010. A larger screen would be a major change for the device, and could require developers to update their applications to take advantage of the larger display.

Retina Displays Also Coming to Next-Generation iMac

imacs_2011_lion

Joanna Stern from ABC News claims that not only the MacBook Pro family but also the iMac line is set to gain ultra high-resolution "Retina" displays.

The laptop will see the introduction of the “Mac Retina Display,” which is said to have a very high resolution. ABC News has similarly heard from its own sources that both the next MacBook Pro and the iMac would be getting very, very high-resolution displays. Apple refreshed its new iPad with a Retina Display in March.

It seems natural that Apple wants to move all its displays to the retina standard. But, it’s unclear, how Apple will implement the increased resolution given that most Macs already approach Retina resolution at typical viewing distances.

Step-by-step Tutorial: How to Tether Jailbreak iPod Touch 3G Using Sn0wBreeze 2.9.3 (Windows) [iOS 5.1]

ipod3g-windows-custom-sn0wbreeze-51

UPDATE: Apple released iOS 5.1.1 and has stopped signing iOS 5.1, so you can NOT restore to 5.1 any more (both original and custom), unless you have saved your SHSH keys for 5.0.1. If you are on 5.1 you can jailbreak with redsn0w. iOS is also tethered jailbreakable with redsn0w.

Using this tutorial you will be able to create a custom firmware, tether jailbreak and unlock iOS 5.1 running on iPod Touch 3G. This tutorial uses Sn0wBreeze 2.9.3 for Windows.

Tethered jailbreak means that each time you restart your device you will need to connect it to a computer and run iBooty.
