Apple Became Absolute Leader In Profits From Mobile Phone Sales In Q2

According to Asymco's Horace Dedie report, Apple is a king of the hill in smartphone sales and is on LG heels for the third place in cell phone sales worldwide.

Samsung that revealed its profits for the second quarter is the second-largest smartphone manufacture globally in terms of units, however the company refuses to reveal its sales data explaining that by fierce competition with Apple.

Apple Considering Using Solar Panels In Its Future Devices

As DigiTimes reports, now Apple as well as other companies like Samsung, is exploring the possibility of using solar panels in its future products. Reportedly Apple is even considering adding Taiwan-based solar panel makers in its supply chain. Apple Tests A6 Chips Produced by TSMC

Reuters reports that Taiwanese maker TSMC has started a test production run of A6 processors designed for future Apple handsets. TSCM is not yet confirmed as the manufacturer of Apple’s A6 processors, but it is said that decision is already “authorized”. The only reason for delaying the deal is the potential yield rate of the chip production.

Sales of $40 magnetic smart covers designed to protect the iPad 2 amounted to collective $300 million for Apple in recent quarter, as BMO Capital's analyst Keith Bachman said on Monday in his note to investors. Half of that figure makes up pure profit for the company.

Counter Suit Against Apple Is Dropped By Samsung To Streamline Legal Proceedings

In April a lawsuit against Samsung was originally filled by Apple in which the company accused Samsung of copying the iPhone and iPad in its Galaxy. Shortly afterwards Samsung filled a counter suit against Apple asking to see the iPad 3 and iPhone 5. But judge denied this request earlier this year. This week Samsung abandoned their counter-patent suits.

Chinese manufacturers reportedly using Apple-rejected displays for iPad clones

Asian sources claim that touch panels for the iPad 2 that do not meet Apple quality requirements are used for production of iPad clones. In second quarter of this year 12-15 million of 9.7-inch IPS panels were manufactured by LG Display and Samsung Electronics, but Apple produces only 7-9 million iPad 2s. So it seems that the rest of panels that don't pass Apple's quality standards was sold to China-based white-box vendors.

Today Apple controls approximately 60 percent of the world's touch panel capacity and actively obtaining components that are in short supply. Now Apple has booked up much of the available production capacity, so other manufactures experience problems with release of their own tablets. For example, Amazon that could face difficulty with display orders for its LCD tablet.

HP Exploring Possibility Of Licensing WebOS And Samsung Is Said To Be Interested

According to Bloomberg’s report, HP is interested in licensing its mobile operating system webOS to other companies, which may open the door for yet another competitor in the tablet and smartphone market.

"We are talking to a number of companies," Apotheker, president of the company, stated in Beijing, refusing to give more details."I can share with you that a number of companies have expressed interest. We are continuing our conversations."
