Using a popular BlackBerry and iPhone messenger WhatsApp you can now make use of its new ability to forward individual messages or delete them.

WhatsApp is a smartphone to smartphone messenger and it currently runs on BlackBerry and iPhone. With the help of push notifications utilized by this application you can instantly receive messages from your colleagues, friends and family. It’s a great alternative to SMS because WhatsApp allows you to send and get messages, audio notes, pictures and video messages without having to spend a cent. According to a new report revealed by Silicon Alley Insider on Wednesday iPhone OS 4 may possibly have built-in integration with Facebook.  The feature will probably be presented on June 7 at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference conducted by Apple.

An author of the report Dan Frommer says he doesn’t have any details on how it works.

“…We also hear that Apple could be integrating Facebook Connect directly into its software developers kit so programmers can more easily add Facebook ’social’ features to their apps”.

There is also information about bringing Facebook messaging features to the upcoming versions of iPhone OS making it possible to send messages via Facebook Chat as easy as sending an SMS.

An idea of integration with Facebook was already implemented by Google in its OS Android 2.0. Windows Phone 7 is also expected to support strong Facebook connectivity.

Recently MuscleNerd, the member of DevTeam, reported the presence of an interesting security bug in Safari for the iPhone. It will probably allow a quick remote jailbreak of iPhone or iPod Touch simply by connecting the device to an external website created for this purpose.

The bug was discovered by two hackers Ralph Phillip and Vincenzo Iozzo, who won the prize of $15 000 during CanSecWest. Their initial idea was to use a web portal to do the exploit of the SMS database and retrieve it’s content.

With Skype on your iPhone or iPod touch you can call and instant message anyone else on Skype for free. You can also call landlines and mobiles and send SMS anywhere in the world, at great rates.

The program for the iPhone will capture a clip of about 20-30 seconds and turn into text everything that was said. Then you can send your dictation via email or SMS.

The TV show Lie to Me (season 2, episode 3 to be exact) decided to lie — they showed an iPhone where one of the characters could swipe between SMS notifications.

To the trained eye, of course, it was merely screenshots of standard model text dialogs over the Notes app, with swiping no doubt courtesy of the Photo App, and sound effects added in post. (The whole screen, not just the alert dialog, changed on swipe). Why did they do it?

This is quite simple. If you did a jailbreak on your iPhone you need to change the default password. Why? Because hackers can access your phone, read your mail, sms, download other data. The second reason is because there are already several viruses (worms) that use these default passwords.

Here’s a quick step-by-step tutorial.

1. If you don’t have MobileTerminal application installed: run Cydia, search for MobileTerminal and install.
2. Run MobileTerminal.
3. Type passwd and press return.
4. Enter the default user password alpine and press return.
5. Enter a new password and press return.
6. Enter a new password again and press return.
7. Congratulations, you changed it for default mobile user. Let’s do the same for root user.
8. Login as root user: type su root and press return.
9. Type alpine for password
10. Type passwd and press return.
11. Enter a new password and press return.
12. Enter a new password again and press return.
13. That’s it!

The passwords are now changed, and your jailbroken iPhone or iPod Touch is now a bit more secure than it was before and less vulnerable to the worm detected recently.

Assuming that the video is not entirely fake, sending and receiving 22,075 messages per day is certainly not something that could be done manually. Nice job!

If you have done jailbreak, don’t worry. During first launch Skype will pop up a message showing that it works only on unmodified iPhones and iPods. But it is not true. It works just fine.

To install the package just run Cydia, add repository http://iphonedelivery.advinux.com/cydia and install package called iPhoneDelivery.

Next, go to Settings> Messages and turn on the last two switches that will enable the Services that show a new screen with the delivery status (last screenshot).

Apple has just pushed out Firmware 2.2.1 for iPhone and iPhone 3G, iPod touch, iPod touch 2G. You can download them here. Firmware 2.2.1 cannot be jailbroken at this time, so unofficial application users should wait for new version of QuickPwn from DevTeam. Unlock (yellowsn0w) also doesn’t work for 2.2.1.

Of course you cannot do two finger gestures with this app. All other actions can be done with the click of your mouse. The only area in which Veency fails tragically at is when opening any video recording application on the iPhone.

Be sure to restart your iPhone after installing Veency and connect to the server using a Wi-Fi connection. We recommend using UltraVNC or TightVNC to connect your Windows desktop. If you’re using a Mac, we recommend Chicken VNC.

TouchType (iTunes Link) is a new app available now in the App Store for the low price of $.99. Now all that is left is some SMS landscape love.

Here’s a brief overview of how it works: Open the application and you get a landscape mode keypad, get your email groove on, tap the send button and it automatically sends it to the email application. Type in the email addresses and you’re all set.

This is all great. But it would be much much better to see this kind of functionality in Mail. app, rather than separate standalnone application.

myFox is an alternative browser for iPhone. Updated to version 1.3.

LockDown allows users to protect iPhone applications with a password. Updated to version 4.0.

CopierciN, copy/paste utility for iPhone, is updated. This application is avaliable in Cydia.

CopierciN is a cool app that implements some copy / paste functionality. It’s in the beta stages but has potential. It lets you import and export between apps like notes, sms, email. Avaliable via Cydia Installer for 2.x firmares.

CopieriN is a basic text editor which, hopefully, bring some kind of copy/paste mechanism to iPhone (to jailbroken ones only, unfortunately). It does not add copy/paste functionality directly to other applications but it provides a mechanism to import text from and export text to SMS, Notes, Mail applications (more to come in the future) and files in the filesystem.

Usage: It basically has two parts: Text Editor and Importer/Exporter. Within the text editor, you can select a piece of text using your finger, cut or copy it, and paste it to a selected location.

To select a text, press a finger to the place where you want to begin selecting and wait until magnifier appears, move your finger and release when done.

Once a piece is selected, you can copy or cut it by using the buttons above. The button on the left (named Clear) clears the entire content of the text editor (you can use it to crop a piece of text: copy the text, clear the page and paste the text back).

The button named “Menu” opens the import/export menu.

Short messages: CopierciN is terminated and SMS application is opened with the latest content of CopierciN is ready-to-be sent. You can chose a receiver within the SMS application. Be aware that CopierciN overwrites the /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mobileSMS.plist file which holds some stuff like unsent messages. So, if you want to keep your unsaved messages, just have a backup of this plist file.

Notes: A new note is added to the notes database. CopierciN does not get terminated during this operation unlike the SMS case.

eMails: Just like the SMS case, CopierciN gets terminated and Mobile Mail application is launched. Again, you can chose the receivers within the Mobile Mail application

Regular Files: The contents of the file at given path is overwritten. Be aware of that and avoid overwriting system files. I would rather open a folder under /var/mobile and save my text files in there.

The iPhone 2.1 is out. It contains the following updates as listed by Apple:

- decrease in call set-up failures andcall drops
- significantly improve battery life for most users

The 2.1 firmware is build 5F136 (weighing in at 237.8MB) and can be directly downloaded through iTunes. The new firmware also contains a number of security fixes including the well publicized passcode flaw.

Jailbreak for 2.1 is not avaliable yet.

You can get Qik with the iPhone 3G and old iPhone with firmware 2.0 by doing the following:

1. If you have not already, you’ll need to sign up at http://qik.com/sign_up and receive an SMS from us to activate the application.
2. Launch Cydia.
3. Go to the “Sections” tab at the bottom and scroll down to “Multimedia.”
4. Under Multimedia, you will find Qik. Tap on it then select “Install” at the top right, then in the same spot tap “Confirm.”
5. Now you will see Qik get installed. You may hit the “Return to Cydia” button at the bottom or just quit Cydia when it is done installing.
6. You’ll now notice a “Qik” icon on your home screen – Go ahead and launch it.
7. As long as your initial signup SMS/text message is still in your inbox for the first launch, your account will be linked to your device.
8. Make sure you have 3G service or are on WiFi (edge is not sufficient enough to stream video) before you begin broadcasting.
9. Hit record and enjoy Qik!

Here is some negative feedback on 2.0.1.

• A small number of blog readers and Apple-support forum participants have reported the update bricked their handsets or killed Wi-Fi functionality. Didn’t show up during testing by many labs.
• There are several reports that updating to 2.0.1 on an iPhone in Airplane mode may result in bricked phones.
• Users who paid Vodaphone to unlock their phones for international roaming have reported the update breaks connections with their carriers.
• A few users report occasional lag in the Contacts, SMS and e-mail apps. From our testing, typing in the Contacts app is still laggy, but SMS and e-mail is faster.
• No surprise whatsoever: Updating results in losing access to your jailbroken (i.e. hacked) apps. 2.0.1 updates iPhone 3G’s baseband, you may never be able to unlock the handset again if you run this update.
• Many users are reporting 2.0.1 is slow with backup. This more likely has to do with the version of iTunes they’re running; many have said iTunes 7.7.1 sped up backup and syncing.
