Steve Jobs Reassured Customer Concerned for Mac OS X Server's Future

snow_leopard_server_box

Yesterday we reported that Apple might discontinue some of its server-relating products at the end of this month and cut Mac OS X Server from Apple’s lineup. One of MacRumors readers emailed Steve Lobs to let know if the serve might be discontinued.

MacRumors’ reader: “If you are abandoning enterprise solutions by eliminating the Xserve, does that mean OS X Server is not far behind? It seems that way. I would hate to see that because I like the product.”

Steve Job’s answer: “No”

His response might mean that Mac OS X Server is not under the danger. Though, Jobs always addresses questions selectively and in rather clever way.

Apple Considering Discontinuing More Server-Focused Products

xserve_box

In early November Apple announced that it would discontinue its Xserve line of rackmountable servers at the end of this month. This statement has caused turmoil among the product's fans, while Steve Jobs has suggested that poor sales were the reason for the decision. But the Xserve discontinuation may only be the beginning of a move by Apple to pare down its storage- and server-focused offerings. Xsan and Final Cut server could be among the programs being discontinued, as Apple's management would be wondering whether to continue to develop and support them in the future. Apple could opt to do away with its Mac OS X Server releases entirely, although the company is still expected to release a server version of Mac OS X Lion later this year.

Steve Jobs Named 'Financial Times' Person of the Year

person of the year

Well-known British newspaper Financial Times recently announced that Apple CEO Steve Jobs was selected its "Person of the Year" for 2010.

A rebuttal of F. Scott Fitzgerald's much-quoted aphorism that there are no second acts in American life does not come more decisively than this. When Steven Paul Jobs first hit the headlines, he was younger even than Mark Zuckerberg is now. Long before it was cool to be a nerd, his formative role in popularising the personal computer made him the tech industry's first rock star .

Controversial Steve Jobs figurine appears to sell for $2,500 on eBay

jobs figure

Although Apple blocked the producer of a lifelike action figure of Apple CEO Steve Jobs from selling it, one of the figures was sold for $2,500 on eBay. In November the producer quickly sold out the initial run of 300 limited edition figures. Some days later Apple sent a cease-and-desist email to the website, citing California Civil Code Section 3344, "which prohibits the use of any person’s name, photograph or likeness in a product without that person’s prior consent." Now we see that one of the figures was listed for sale for a starting price of $1,000, but eventually sold for the $2,500.
