Signal issues is not a reason to forgo buying an iPhone 4

iPhone-4-antenna2

Several recent reports reveal that the antenna problem is not unique and can't be a serious reason not to buy the iPhone 4.

According to research group Consumer Reports the signal troubles are caused by human as in case with any other phone.

“Underplayed in the discussion is the fact that all phones are subject to interference from the human who is using them. And even if the alleged signal loss is real, there’s an absence of hard evidence that iPhone 4 reception is problematic compared to past iPhones; indeed there’s evidence of just the opposite”.

Letter from Apple regarding iPhone 4 problems

Apple has published an official public letter of response to concerns about the iPhone 4 signaling problems. Some would say this is very nice and great. Others would complain this is just a cop out. Well, at least we see that Apple is aware of users' problems. Apple claims, that it's just a software problem of calculating how many bars of signal strength to display. Apple says there is no hardware problem.

Here it the full letter:

Dear iPhone 4 Users,

The iPhone 4 has been the most successful product launch in Apple’s history. It has been judged by reviewers around the world to be the best smartphone ever, and users have told us that they love it. Camera Tests for iPhone 4 And Other Devices

151916-macworld_camera_rankings

When the iPhone 4 was introduced at the WWDC, Apple especially noted the capabilities of the device, putting emphasis on its camera. The company said that, even though the iPhone 4 had only 5 megapixels, while 8 megapixels was beginning to be the norm for the latest smartphones, the iPhone 4 would have a far superior performance thanks to some special features that go far beyond the simple megapixel count.

Now the iPhone 4 is finally on the market, and so are samples of the new Droid X from Motoralla introduced on Wednesday. This made camera tests possible and this is what Macworld did in their series of tests aimed to compare 4 devices: the iPhone 4, it’s predecessor 3GS, the Droid X, the HTC EVO 4G, Samsung HZ35W and Galaxy, as well as basic Sony and Samsung point-and-shoot cameras. For the video test, the devices were also compared to the Flip Video M2120.

FaceTime Testing Hotline from Apple

130552-1-888-facetime

One of the main iPhone 4’s innovations is FaceTime, a new video calling feature. Unfortunately, at the moment it is only limited to calls from one iPhone 4 to another, and it makes it rather challenging for people to try it out, since not all of them know other iPhone 4 users.

Apple has suggested a solution: a new testing and support hotline at 1-888-FACETIME. Before starting a FaceTime session with a representative from Apple, callers will be asked a couple of questions about their new phone. Then they can get more information about the new feature, ask some questions and test FaceTime.

The hotline currently works from 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m. Central Time.

New Full-Screen Compose Window for Gmail in iPad

114020-gmail_ipad_compose_500

After the iPad launch in early April, Google created a formatted version of Gmail for iPad that uses its HTML5-based platform in order to create a 2-column format which is similar to the one used for Apple’s Mail on iPad. After the launch Google remarked that the process of testing interface design and features of iPad Gmail was still on, and today we have a new proof that the testing isn’t over yet.

The present 2-column interface of the Gmail for iPad is going to be supplemented with a new full-screen window that will appear over the Gmail window and will make it easier to write emails on iPad.
