After the news about Apple’s lawsuit many of us have been wondering why Apple did this. Obviously, the thing is not about money as the company already has $40 billion of cash and investments. Digital Daily’s editor John Paczkowski thinks the reason is a desire to extend iPhone’s growing lead on the market.

“Apple is suing to make an example out of HTC and lengthen the engineering time-to-market for Android handset builders.”

While other Android smartphone manufacturers will spend their time solving a problem with developing of noninfringing technologies to avoid lawsuits, Apple will continue to iterate the iPhone.

Ok, this is clear, but why Apple accused HTC now?

The specialists from RedmondPie made a video showing how to turn the interface of the iPhone into that of an iPad. They used simple packages that are already available via Cydia (for jailbroken iPhone).

Everything is very simple, just follow these steps:

• Install Winterboard from Cydia.
• Install the Winterboard theme “Simple iPad Theme” from Cydia.
• Install MakeItMine from Cydia. This utility is needed to change the Carrier name to “iPad”.
• Download the application Shrink to reduce the size of the icons.
• Install NYTimes, Classics and Kindle applications from AppStore.

HTC Cydget is a nice theme for the lockscreen that can be set by Cydget, the new application from Saurik.

As you can see from the images, this tweak transforms the classic lockscreen to an HTC clock. The app is avaliable via Cydia.

Redmondpie have completed the HTC Hero theme for iPhone. They have done a really good job because it looks good:

It works on jailbreaked iPhones via Winterboard. Here is a link to step-by-step installation instructions. I guess this theme will appear in Cydia quite soon, so installation would be much easier.

Mail Progress is a new mod for iPhone. It will allow you to change the color of the bar indicating the sending of an email message. The application works through WinterBoard and offers the following color changes: Yellow, Sky Blue, Red, Purple, Orange, Green, Cool Grey, Black.

Mail Progress email is available in Cydia, category “Themes”, ModMyi repository. By the way, it is and is compatible with firmware 3.0.

VolumeBooster is a tool that, by changing some system files, should increase the sound coming from the speaker of the iPhone / iPod Touch 2G by 20%.

The procedure for the installation is simple, run Cydia and find “Volume Boost”, available in the repository ModMyi. It works thriugh Winterboard, after installation you need to apply the Mod. VolumeBooster is compatible with all firmware versions.

Note: Do not install on the iPhone 3GS, because the audio there is already set to 100%.

Saurik has almost completed work on Winterboard and will soon release the update that adds compatibility with the iPhone 3GS. We do not have many details about it, but we know that is coming.

This is the first iPhone application to contain bare boobs. The $1.99 app for iPhone and iPod touch only showed girls in lingerie and bikinis until now.

This is not just an application that downloads softcore content from the Web, bypassing Apple’s censorship. There is no censorship here, as this is truly an Apple approved app “rated 17+” for “frequent/intense sexual content or nudity” and “frequent/intense mature/suggestive theme.”

According to developers: “We uploaded nude topless pics today. This is the first app to have nudity“.

The app is avaliable via AppStore (link) for $1.99.

Equilibrio is a new game where you control a ball through various levels to reach the exit. It is a very funny game where we use physics to guide a ball using the accelerometer of the iPhone and iPod Touch. In the lower left is a kind of small map that shows the structure and level of play while we try to take the coins.

GAME FEATURES:

- 60 levels with an increasing difficulty (more to come in future release)

If you have jailbreaked iPhone your Skype app may crash. Here is what we know so far:

• If Skype crashes when trying to input text: Disable both Clippy (Use SBSettings toggle) and any custom Winterboard sounds relating to the keyboard tick (tock.aiff).
• If Skype crashes within 1 minute of having the app open: Update app called mobile substrate in Cydia. Uninstalling mobile substrate also fixes the problem, but you will lose features such as winterboard and sbsettings.

UPDATE: Many users report that Skype works fine with the latest version of Clippy (0.98-2) without the need to turn the latter off.

Recently we talked about Apple’s second patent about biometric security. The funny thing is that the images used in this patent show a jailbroken firmware 1.x iPhone, with installed Installer.app, SMBPrefs  and the iWood Realize theme from the iSpazio repository. There are also “Terminal”, “Game”, “VRecord”, “Blocks” and others.

iPhone OS 3.0 is a small theme for Winterboard available in Cydia that will change icons for Messages, iPod and Phone apps with the new ones from firmware 3.0.

Clippy is an iPhone addition from Cydia for copy/paste functionality. It was updated to version 0.97-2. The main bug that was fixes is a crash of different applications such as Notes, Safari, Mail and others where the animation was drawn. New version also added a language pack, improved the animation of the menu, full support for selecting editable text in web views, themes support and a lot more.

Avaliable via Cydia for jailbreaked iPhones.
