House of Representatives Passes Bill that Makes Phone Unlocking Legal



The United States House of Representatives has recently passed a bill that makes phone unlocking completely legal on the whole territory of the USA. However, it’s too early to celebrate - the document is yet to be approved by the Senate. And this is very unlikely to happen, reliable sources say. Apart from that, the unlocking is likely to remain illegal for those who plan to resell the unlocked devices.

Samsung Galaxy S5 to Feature Awkward Fingerprint Scanner?



Following Apple’s example, Samsung will add a fingerprint sensor to its Galaxy S5. According to the latest SamMobile report, the user will have to swipe across the home key at a moderate speed to make the sensor recognize the fingerprints. Not as convenient as Apple’s Touch ID, right?

Apple Releases iOS 7.1 Beta 4 to Developers



Apple released iOS 7.1 beta 4 to developers on Tuesday. The new iOS version contains a number of performance improvements and a fix for the message sending issue. As to the other notable enhancements, these are only ‘slide to unlock’ and ‘slide to power off’ texts, which seem to be tweaked a bit.

Apple is now offering 24-hour shipping for any carrier-locked iPhone 5s version you choose, AppleInsider reports. However, those who plan to purchase an unlocked handset, will have to wait a bit - a few days, probably. One-day shipping is currently available only for customers in the United States, but with time, I believe, such an option will be added to Apple Online Stores all over the world.

Gene Munster of Piper Jaffray has issued a new report, claiming that Apple’s iPhone 5s is currently available in all of the retail stores across the USA. The analyst’s figures are based on data from 60 locations in different cities. According to what Munster writes, all models, either carrier-locked or unlocked and SIM-free, can be purchased right now.

The company from Cupertino was granted a patent No. 8,600,120 for "Personal computing device control using face detection and recognition" on Tuesday.
