Apple Files Patent Describing ‘Panic Mode’ on iPhone





The United States Patent and Trademark Office has recently published a rather interesting patent application filed by Apple. The document describes a technology that allows to activate a special ‘panic mode’ on the iPhone with the help of special fingerprint. This special mode will allow to protect user’s data in case a robber forces the owner to unlock his phone, moreover, it will let the so-called ’emergency response providers’ take photos of the robber, determine the location of the handset and perform a number of other actions, for example, contacting police or letting a family member know about the situation.

Pangu Team Updates Its Utility for iOS 9-iOS 9.0.2 Jailbreak with Minor Improvements



The Pangu team has recently released an update for the jailbreaking utility capable of hacking compatible iPhones, iPads and iPod touches running iOS 9-iOS 9.0.2. Those who have already jailbroken their devices, do not need to do this once again. What they should do, however, is updating "Pangu 9.0.x Untether" and "Patcyh" in Cydia.

Apple’s ‘Slide to Unlock’ Patents Acknowledged Invalid in Germany



Apple’s patents covering the ‘slide to unlock' feature are invalid in Germany. The Federal Court of Appeals in Karlsruhe has recently ruled that the aforementioned feature is similar to the feature introduced in the phone released by a Swedish company Neonode back in 2006 and thus can’t be covered with a separate patent. According to the latest report from Reuters reporters, this decision reaffirms the same ruling made by the Federal Patent Court in 2013.

New Patent Filing Describes Apple's Plans to Improve Fingerprint Recognition and Change Home Button



According to the latest patent filing, the guys from Cupertino are currently planning to expand the functionality of the fingerprint sensor and the Home button. This filing contains several separate patents describing new technologies that can possibly be added to the next generations of iPhones and iPads. One the most interesting inventions from the aforementioned document is a touch display with several fingerprint sensors. This special display will allow the user to define a special part on the front surface of the iPhone responsible for unlocking the phone, confirming purchases etc. Apart from that, Apple wants to make the Home button found on iOS devices more functional by adding the recognition of gestures. This will allow to navigate through websites and play games using the Home button.

August Smart Lock is Now Available for Purchase at the Apple Store



The August Smart Lock is now available for purchase at the Apple Store for $249.99.

The smart lock, designed by Behar, leverages a Bluetooth low energy-enabled locking mechanism and a mobile application to send virtual keys to anyone you choose to have access to your home. As the key holder arrives at the door, August auto-unlocks allowing you to enter into the home. The lock also has a security feature called EverLock, which senses when the door is closed behind you and automatically locks the door.

NFC Chip Found in iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus Will Work Only With Apple Pay?



Although both iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus can boast of the NFC chip, it appears that the guys from Cupertino plan to use it only for making their payments service Apple Pay workable. Other possible ways of utilising the Near Field Communication technology won't be supported, which means that the developers won't get access to the iPhone's NFC antenna and won't be able to create third-party apps based on the advanced communication technology. The information was shared by Apple's spokeswoman, so I guess we can believe it.

President Obama Has Signed Cell Phone Unlocking Bill



As it was expected, President Obama has signed the Unlocking Consumer Choice and Wireless Competition Act. The legislation, which successfully passed the US House of Representatives and the US Senate earlier this year, makes it legal for any user to unlock any smartphone purchased on the territory of the USA.
