How To Start Using Passbook On iOS 6





Earlier this month at Worldwide Developers Conference, Scott Forstall, Apple’s Vice President of iOS, unveiled a new “Passbook” app that allows users to track different types of stubs, including movie tickets, coupons, loyalty cards and boarding passes.

Passbook app is included in the iOS 6 beta currently available to developers, but it is missing virtual passes to put inside. Currently it is just a sitting page without functionality. But Passbook will likely swing into full action as the company adds more functionality heading this fall. Those of you who want to start using this app, can do this in iOS 6 with a few simple steps.

What's new in iOS 6 Beta 2 firmware (x8)



Apple released iOS 6 Beta 2 today. Let's take a look what's changed:

1. Apple added a toggle to control whether or not you can use iOS 6′s new Shared Photo Streams feature. The toggle is in both the Photos settings page and the iCloud settings.

Apple Filed Application For ‘.apple’ Domain Name Suffix

According to the Associated Press, the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers has posted a list of around 2,000 applications for new domain name suffixes. These applications were received by ICANN as part of its program to expand existing domain naming system by adding new suffixes. Among the new domain name suffixes will be those based on brands so that companies can simplify URLs for their websites and enhance their branding.

Apple Purchasing Italian Audio Editing Software Company Redmatica

TechCrunch points to a post from Italian Fanpage saying that Apple intends to purchase a small Italian software company Redmatica that develops audio editing apps such as AutoSampler and Keymap Pro.

Evidence of the purchase has been revealed in the weekly bulletin of Italy’s antitrust regulatory body AGCM. The most relevant portion of the bulletin published on May 28 said (English translation):

Apple updates Apple TV to version 5.0.1 9B206f

Apple released the new iOS firmware 5.0.1 (9B206f) for both Apple TV 2G and latest Apple TV 3G. The software update is said to bring fixes to AirPlay, Netflix, Home Sharing, and more. New firmware also includes HD previews for movies and TV shows on the iTunes Store.

'iPhone 5' Headphone Jack and Earpiece Component Surfaces

The website of parts supplier SW-Box posted photos of the parts claimed to be from Apple's sixth-generation iPhone. The components are said to be a headphone jack, earpiece and Wi-Fi cable. The purported iPhone parts suggest the device will have a significantly different internal design, as the headphone jack is attached to the earpiece and Wi-Fi components.

That's a major departure from the current design of the iPhone 4S and iPhone 4, in which the headphone jack is included on a component with the handset's volume buttons and mute switch, all of which are located in the upper left corner of the device.

Apple accidentally reveals iCloud.com banner notifications

Users who visited the iCloud.com website on Tuesday could find a test of a new banner notification feature that was mistakenly made public, revealing a forthcoming feature for the service. An iOS-style notification was at the top of a browser and looked like:

"Default Title for English," the title read, followed by "English - This is test message description."

To the right of the notification was an 'X,' allowing users to close the message from their browser. The test message could not be selected and it did not link anywhere.

Apple to launch new iPad in Brazil, 29 other countries this weekend

Portuguese-language website G1 discovered that Apple announced the May 11 launch on its official Brazilian iPad page. Apple's new iPad will launch in a total of 30 new countries this weekend, with the largest among them Brazil. Most launches will occur this Friday, May 11, but a handful more in the Middle East will have a launch this Saturday, May 12.

Apple's assembly partner Foxconn recently began manufacturing devices in Brazil, and has opened plants intended for iPhone and iPad production there. Apple began selling iPhone 4 units built in Brazil in their home country in February, but thus far, production has been limited to the 8-gigabyte handset model, model number "MD198BR/A," and has not extended to version of the latest-model iPhone 4S.

Apple Shows Off Use Of iPhone In The Enterprise Sector

On its website Apple posted a new page that highlights the use of iPhone in the enterprise market. The page shows how the device can be used in the business environment to manage projects, organize days, set calendar appointments, read mail, keep contacts organized, setup meetings, and more. The company also highlighted specific apps like “OmniFocus”, “GoToMeeting”, “TripIt,” “MicroStrategy” for iPhone that are available on the App Store.

Apple on Friday released version 1.0 of its "Flashback malware removal tool" which will scan a user's computer and erase known iterations of the Trojan that some are calling the worst the Mac platform has ever seen.

  • If the Flashback malware is found, a dialog will be presented notifying the user that malware was removed.
  • In some cases, the Flashback malware removal tool may need to restart your computer in order to completely remove the Flashback malware.

600,000 Macs were reported to be infected by Flashback and connected in the botnet, which harvested personal information and web browsing logs from affected machines. The Trojan was first discovered last year and installed itself through the guise of an Adobe Flash installer. This version of the malware is able to install itself automatically after visiting an infected website.

Apple improving iTunes account security with stricter requirements

Ars Technica reports that Apple has began asking users of iOS devices to select and answer some question related to their Apple IDs. Such measures were reportedly taken by the company to improve security of iTunes accounts.

After being shown the message, users are asked to select from a number of security questions and provide personal answers. Users are also prompted to provide a backup e-mail address in case the primary address associated with their Apple ID is compromised.
