Polaroid Photos Of The First Apple Computers

Technologizer's Harry McCracken reported on some photos taken in 1976 by Paul Terrel from the Byte Shop in Mountain View. The Byte Shop was one of several computer stores in the world at that time and later become the first dealer for a startup company called Apple Computer.

Terrel said that Wozniak and Jobs came into his store with their machine called Apple-1 in the form of do-it-yourself kit asking to sell it in his shop. Buyers would have to solder the chips on the circuit board themselves and then supply such accoutrements such as display, keyboard and power supply.

“Terrell was intrigued, but told Jobs that what he really needed were fully-assembled computers. In fact, if Jobs could come back with an assembled version of the Apple-1, the Byte Shop would buy fifty of them. Jobs did, and the Byte Shop became the first Apple dealer (it eventually offered the Apple-1 in a wooden case with keyboard and power supply)”.

Eventually, Terrel paid $500 each for fifty Apple-1’s, which were sold for $666.66 at retail.
