The iPhone 5 Should Deliver Improved Signal Reception

Apple announces the new iPhone 5
Today Apple introduced the new iPhone 5. It has a new design, however it looks a bit like tall iPhone 4S.
It is 18% thinner than the 4S, just 7.6mm. It's even 20% percent lighter at 112 grams. The in-cell retina display is 4-inch with 1136 x 640 resolution. Apple says new iPhone 5 has a better color saturation with full sRGB rendering. That new longer screen allows for an extra set of icons to be displayed on the home screen, and first party apps have already been tweaked to take advantage of additional pixels. The tweaked ratio puts the iPhone 5 display closer to 16:9, but it's not quite there.
iPhone 5 supports worldwide LTE as well as HSPA+ and DC-HSDPA. 802.11n Wi-Fi can connect at 2.4ghz and 5ghz. Performance is said to be 2 times faster with new A6 processor. iSight camera features 8-megapixel sensor, backside flash, hybrid IR filter, five-element lens, sapphire lens, f/2.4 aperture, next-generation ISP, spatial noise reduction, smart filter, better low-light performance, 40 percent faster on photo capture, and HD video recording (1080p) up to 30 frames per second with audio.
Front FaceTime HD camera has 1.2MP sensor, improved video stability and is capable of recording HD video (720p) up to 30 fps. Audio system was also improved. iPhone 5 has 3 mics and improved speakers.

iPhone 5 preorders to start on September 14th
Rumors say that pre-orders for the next generation iPhone 5 are reportedly set to begin the morning of Friday, September 14th, according to MacRumors:
MacRumors is now hearing that pre-orders may not begin tomorrow following the media event and that they may instead start on Friday morning in a scenario similar to last year's debut. We're hearing that certain portions of Apple's online sales support team are significantly increasing their staffing levels beginning at 6:00 AM Eastern on Friday, with a major surge for the initial shift beginning at that time and a sustained level of high staffing for at least the remainder of the day.
Last year, the iPhone 4S was set to begin pre-orders at 12:01 AM Pacific Time the Friday following the Apple's media event.
So users are given an extra couple of days to get the money together.
iPad, iPad Mini, and iPhone 5 Cases Compared to an iPhone 4S
MacRumors reader Michael Rou, who managed to obtain both a pre-production iPhone 5 case and a pre-production iPad mini case, posted the comparison photos on Flickr. The cases design is base on the recently leaked images and specifications coming out of Foxconn factories. The cases were produced by one of the case manufacturers ahead of the rumored devices launches. Apple is expected to introduce the new iPhone on September 12th at a special media event. The iPad mini is rumored to be launched in October.
Apple Begins Prepping Yerba Buena Center for iPhone 5 Media Event
Apple has begun preparing the Yerba Buena Center for its iPhone 5 introduction. The entrance of the Center is wrapped with colorful banners, suggesting that new multicolored iPods will be part of the event. The new banners evoke the imagery the company used to launch new iPods in 2010.
iPhone 5 To Launch At The Same Prices As iPhone 4S
Comparison
“Here is the part codes matrix for the new iPhone launch from a source at a well-known U.S. retail chain: N42A-USA -$199, N42B-USA-$199, N42A-USA-$299, N42B-USA-$299, N42A-USA-$399, N42B-USA-$399. A + B signify black and white”.
It is expected that Apple will accompany the iPhone launch with a number of accessories, and pre-orders will reportedly begin “soon after” iPhone 5 introduction.
Apple Will Discontinue iPhone 3GS And Introduce 8GB iPhone 4S
According to a
“The new update will mean that the 8GB version of the iPhone 4 will be the entry-level iPhone, probably given away free on £20 per month contracts, as the 3GS is currently”.
The Telegraph also notes that iPhone 5 will come in three different capacities, probably the same 64 GB/32 GB/16 GB line seen with the iPhone 4S.
Moving the iPhone 4 into the position that is currently occupied by the iPhone 3GS would allow more carriers to offer a free iPhone, because the iPhone 4 is sold in both CDMA and GSM versions while the iPhone 3GS is only offered in GSM version.
The iPhone 3GS would probably be most missed by customers who want to buy contract-free smartphones. Currently Apple sells contract-free, unlocked iPhone 3GS for $375 in the U.S. and at higher prices in other countries such as $455 in China. If the company elected to continue selling the device along with its three other iPhone models, it would have to cut the price even further.
Closeup Photos Show Clear Difference in Thickness Between iPhone 5 and 4S
Repair firm iResQ has posted side-by-side comparison shots of the purported next-generation iPhone and the iPhone 4S. The photo shows that the iPhone 5 is indeed substantially thinner than the iPhone 4S. Apple's move toward thinner body components and a thinner distribution of internal components enabled by the larger surface area due to the 4-inch screen of the iPhone 5 have allowed the company to substantially shrink the device's overall thickness.

Comparison Photos of iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 Batteries
While several photos of the next-generation iPhone battery have leaked in August, Apple products repair firm iResQ has now got one of the batteries and published new photos that show the battery in the device’s rear shell and next to the battery from iPhone 4S for comparison.
The iPhone 5 battery is at 3.8 volts, potentially utilizing new chemistry technology to increase capacity to 5.45Whr from the 3.7 volt/5.3Whr iPhone 4S battery. The comparison photo shows that the iPhone 5 battery is slightly taller than the battery in the iPhone 4S, and the thickness seems almost the same despite the fact the iPhone 5 is said to be at least 15 percent thinner than the iPhone 4S.
The photos also show that the connector on the next iPhone is different and it is located on the opposite side of its battery in order to accommodate its new position in the device.
Photos of Assembled 'iPhone 5' Front Panel
New images thought to be of the front assembly for Apple's next-generation iPhone were found on Sunday by Chinese site Apple.pro and posted to a Photobucket account that previously posted photos of measurements showing that the third-generation iPad would be thicker than the iPad 2, as well as the first leaked photo of the next-generation iPhone front panel in white.
