Walmart offers discounts for iPhone 5 and Third-Generation iPad

The run-up to the holidays shopping season is in full swing, so there are more successful deals on buying the iPhone 5 and consequently Walmart offers new discounts on the iPhone and iPad which may be of interest to some readers.
More than half of smartphone consumers prefer to buy the iPhone 5

A new survey of more than 800 United States buyers found that more than half of those ones who planning to buy a smartphone in the next three months say they will buy the new iPhone 5 by Apple. The poll conducted by Piper Jaffray, revealed that 53.3% of consumers say they plan to buy the iPhone 5 in the near future. This is close to a number of buyers constituting the 54.9 percent who have already chosen the iPhone 5 in October and a little more than 47.7 percent who said they would choose Apple in September.

Steve Jobs, Apple co-founder, is one of those who enlisted in the United States Patent D671937, titled simply "Electronic Device". It includes the design of the iPhone 4 along with the original antenna that wa sfinally improved and replaced in the iPhone 4S.
iOS Moved Android Into Second Spot In US Smartphone Market
By virtue of iPhone 5 sales, iOS reached the top spot on the smartphone market in the United States, research company Kantar Worldpanel Comtech. According to the report covering smartphone sales over the 12-week period ending October 28, iOS accounts for 48.1% of the smartphone market in the U.S (up 25% year-over-year) and has officially moved Android into second spot.

Apple Sold Over Five Million iPhone 5 In Opening Weekend
Earlier we reported on Apple’s announcement that customers had pre-ordered more than two million iPhone 5 in the first twenty four hours of availability. Today Apple that first weekend sales of the new iPhone 5 exceeded 5 million units, surpassing the four million iPhone 4S sold during the device’s opening weekend last year. The company also announced that more than 100 million iOS-devices have been updated to its new iOS 6. Apple’s CEO Tim Cook said:

Apple has just released iOS 6, making it available to users of the latest iPad, iPhone and iPod touch models. To get updates, you need to connect your device to iTunes and click "check for updates" or using the menu: Settings-General-> Software update. However, the update can take several minutes to propagate to all users.
About 200 new features have been added in iOS 6, including Maps from Apple, Facebook integration, improved Siri, Passbook e-wallet program from Apple and more.
iOS 6 is compatible with the third-generation iPad, iPad 2, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, and fourth-generation iPod touch. The operating system will be preinstalled on the iPhone 5 to be released on Friday, and the fifth-generation iPod touch models set for the release next month.

iPhone 5 Estimated Component Costs Begin At $199
HIS iSuppi has its estimate of the cost of iPhone 5’s bill of materials (BOM), which they made based on industry knowledge and information disclosed by Apple. The estimate, which doesn’t include many other costs associated with manufacturing, sales and product development, pegs the bill of materials of the entry-level iPhone 5 with 16 GB at $199. HIS iSuppi notes:

AnandTech the first benchmark for the iPhone 5. This benchmark measures performance of Javascript in web browsers.
Lower is better, so the iPhone 5 with the score of 914.7ms outstripped all other devices measured in the test. Moreover, it is the fastest SunSpider test for a smartphone they have ever recorded. The new iPhone is more than twice as fast as the iPhone 4S that scored 2250ms and significantly faster than the Galaxy S III that scored 1442.9-1824.9ms.

Analyst Expects iPhone 5 Sales Will Hit 8 Million Units In Opening Weekend
Following Apple announcement made earlier today that it received two million pre-orders for new iPhone in the first day of its availability, analyst from Piper Jaffray Gene Munster has issued a new research note forecasting that Apple will sale from 6 to 10 million units during the launch weekend. He bases his estimates on impressive pre-order numbers and comparison with last year’s pre-orders for the iPhone 4S. He noted:

Today Apple a press release saying that iPhone 5 saw record-breaking pre-orders of more than two million units in the first twenty four hours of availability. The performance breaks iPhone 4S record that saw one million units pre-ordered during the first day of availability. Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Marketing Philip Schiller said:

The first batch of iPhone 5 devices were sold out in just 1 hour after they went on sale at midnight last night. The ship dates for iPhone 5 pre-orders slipped to two weeks away.
Last year, the first batch of iPhone 4S devices sold out after about a day of pre-orders. Either supplies of the iPhone 5 are less or its selling incredibly well.
