Street View App Can Access Google’s Street View From Within iOS 6 Maps

Developers from FutureTap recently released a 99 cent app on the App Store called “Street View” that allows users to access Google Street View from the iOS 6 Maps app.

One of the key features missing in the iOS 6 Maps app was the 360 degree panoramas of the Google's Street View. With the release of Google Maps app for iOS things got better, but there are still several reasons why many people continue using Apple’s Maps app.

The main reason is that iOS 6 doesn’t allow using third-party applications as the default mapping app. So, for example, when using Siri or tapping links for addresses Apple still defaults to its Maps app. But with the Street View app, you can access Google Street View while using the default Maps app.

FutureTap has taken advantage of Apple’s feature that allows installing third-party applications as “routing sources.” When searching for a transit directions in the Maps app, user can tap on one of the available sources to receive directions from the third-party app. Street View app is also used as a source, but instead of directions, it displays a Street View image (as shown above).
