1993 Interview - Steve Jobs About Paul Rand
Paul Rand is not a well-known person, but it was he who created logos for such famous companies like ABC Television, UPS, IBM and NeXT. He didn't actually design any of the logos for Apple, but he was chosen to be portrayed with an Apple logo for a print ad.
In 1993 Steve Jobs gave an interview to Alan Pottasch and Doug Evans. That was a time when he was a chief executive officer of NeXT and concentrated on porting their NeXTSTEP OS for x86 processors. That year Apple changed the guard from J. Sculley to M. Spindler.
At that interview Jobs spoke much about Rand as of an artist who became a "gem" for the company. He also says:
"When you scratch the surface of any of his work, you find out the depth of the intellectual problem solving that's taken place."
His speech reflects the ideal of current Apple's products. It is not only the hardware design that attracts people, it is also a software and the forseen interaction beneath it.
Google And Apple - Confrontation Of Personalities
For the last few months we have been witnessing the competition between Google and Apple that becomes more and more significant. We tried to analyze some facts and made a conclusion that the confrontation is more personal than corporate.
Reiner: Apple Has An Agressive Strategy
In a week after the story about the lawsuit Oppenheimer analyst Yal Reiner wrote a research note, where it is said that Apple started warning Motorola and HTC in as early as January 2009. The Cupertino's company was not so happy to see that rivals' new products look like iPhone (or at least use the same concepts).
Apple COO Tim Cook even commented on this situation:
"Apple will not stand for having our IP ripped off, and we'll use whatever weapons that we have at our disposal".
The words were presumably about Samsung, LG and Nokia (Palm is not mentioned as its sales numbers are not so considerable).

Will the iPad Support Tethering? Steve Jobs Answers!
This week Steve Jobs answered an email question from Sweden. The question was from Jezper Söderlund:
I'll keep it short.
I'm Jezper from Sweden, a long time Apple fan, currently about to replace the very last computer at home with a brand spanking new iMac i7. I'm also awaiting the release of the iPad. However, I have one question:
Will the wifi-only version somehow support tethering thru my iPhone?
Two devices, based on the same OS, with already built-in technology to share one data plan suggests a secondary contract could possibly be redundant.
From the look of your keynote, where the iPad sits well between my MacBook Pro and my iPhone, I was hoping the three of them could interact as seamless as possible.
All the best,
Jezper Söderlund
This is a very interesting question, since iPad's network settings with tethering were found recently. Here is Jobs' answer:
The iPhone Stand Made of Forks And Spoons
This amazing iPhone stand was made by designers at ForkedUpArt with their own hands. It is fully functional as the device can be charged while being held up by spoons for legs. Also it allows using not only iPhone but many other devices as well. The price is only $30 and there are two variants depending on what "head" you prefer - a
Penguin's Upcoming iPad books
Penguin, one of the biggest publishers, gave a very interesting presentation in London. Penguin CEO John Makinson spoke about eBooks, iPad Books and Apps.
Penguin is not using the ePub format for books, rather building the applications in html according to Makinson:
"We will be embedding audio, video and streaming in to everything we do. The .epub format, which is the standard for ebooks at the present, is designed to support traditional narrative text, but not this cool stuff that we’re now talking about".
"So for the time being at least we’ll be creating a lot of our content as applications, for sale on app stores and HTML, rather than in ebooks. The definition of the book itself is up for grabs".
"We don’t know whether a video introduction will be valuable to a consumer. We will only find answers to these questions by trial and error."
Makinson sees ebooks hitting 10% of book sales next year (up from 4%). Take a look at the video:

Apple From 1976 To 2010 in Video Footage
Company named Transparent House created a video tribute to an Apple. Its idea was to design some of the well-known innovative products that company has developed in their more than 30 years history.
All the animation took about 10 days to complete. The work was done using only 3Ds Max and V-Ray Render. Creators say it is not connected with Apple or any commercial company, and they hope it will be used only in educational purposes. Let's watch!
