Several users in the past week received email invitations from Apple to join a new customer feedback program called “Pulse”, aimed at providing ”input on a variety of subjects and issues concerning Apple.”
Apple values your opinion and invites you to participate in a survey about your Apple products. Your responses will remain completely confidential, and results will be viewed only in aggregate. The survey should take five minutes or less to complete.
iPhone 6 To Use Next-Gen Thinner Displays from Sharp
Nikkan, Japanese newspaper, reports that Apple and Sharp may have entered into agreement on manufacturing displays for the sixth-generation iPhone. Rumors are based on the fact that Sharp has already begun preparation for the start of manufacturing in Spring next year at its plant in Japan for an iPhone display using next-generation technologies.
Next MacBook Pro to Get New Case Design
There are some rumors claiming that the next revision of Apple's MacBook Pro line will utilize a brand new case for the first time in several years. Macrumors.com pointed out a February iLounge piece that asserted that 2011 will see the “all new design” described as “a big milestone” for the MacBook Pro family. iLounge reported that this new design was under development at the time at Quanta Computers, a contract manufacturer. There no specifics on what the next MacBook Pro might look like, though many have previously speculated that Apple will take cues from the MacBook Air line that offers an iMac-inspired design with a black-bezel and aluminum unibody casing.
White iPhone 4 Sold By Vodafone UK
One of Engadget’s reader claims to have purchased a long-awaited white iPhone 4 through Vodafone in the UK. That deal seems to be true because the Vodafone UK's inventory systems were showing the white iPhone 4 as shipping in. The carrier has reportedly been gearing up to receive shipments of the device, but it now appears that the units may in fact be arriving and have slipped out for sale in a few instances.
Engadget reports: “Now, we've secured a few images of a 16GB model from a separate source that has seemingly made its way into the hands of one lucky customer over in Britain.”
Interestingly, the iPhone appears to show a modified proximity sensor, utilizing an open slot over the earpiece instead of the previously-seen fine grating. Remind you that the most most recent rumors claim that the white iPhone 4 will be launched next Wednesday, April 27th.
Apple Isn’t Going to Discontinue iPod Classic
A rumors saying that Apple might kill and discontinue the iPod Classic first appeared last September when the company introduced the new iPod models for every line except the iPod Classic. Moreover, the device wasn’t updated since September 2009. But late January Toshiba introduced the new hard drives with the form factor used by the iPod classic, giving the possibility of new life for the iPod classic.
With the new interest in the iPod classic one of MacRumors readers emailed Apple CEO Steve Jobs, asking him about the fate of the iPod Classic. Jobs responded him that the company was not going to discontinue the device. Though Apple’s plans may change!
Wife says no, Apple says yes to iPad 2
MacRumors reports an interesting and rather amazing story concerning the new iPad 2. As far as we know, Apple keeps an eye on the iPad 2 returns to identify any problems with the new tablet in early production units, like light-bleeding we’ve been hearing about. Among such returns was one really unusual with Post-it note saying that "Wife says no." The customer’s wife wouldn’t let him to keep the device.
But a pair of the Apple’s Vice-presidents got wind of the story and decided to send him a replacement out of free iPad 2 with a new Post-it note on it: “Apple said yes”. Sounds like a great story, isn’t it?
Chip Teardown Firms Confirm iPad 2's A5 Chip Manufactured by Samsung
This time the second iPad’s A5 processor has became an object of teardown, revealing that the chip is indeed being manufactured by Samsung. Some recent rumors claimed that Apple is shifting production from Samsung to TSMC. Apple is said to be interested in switching from Samsung because the company competes with both the iPhone and the iPad with its own devices - the Galaxy S smartphone and the Galaxy Tab tablet, respectively.
iPhone 5 Design Images with Larger Edge-to-Edge Screen
iDealsChina reports that managed to get engineering diagrams of the new iPhone 5, showing a larger display and a thinner bezel.
We just got what appears to be mold engineering drawings for iPhone 5. These would be used by case designers to create plastic, TPU, aluminum, silicone and leather cases. A while back we hear rumors that iPhone 5 would have a curved back but these images show iPhone 5 with the same form factor as iPhone 4 but with an edge to edge screen.
Apple kills fall iPad 3 rumors by calling 2011 "Year of iPad 2"
During the iPad 2 media event Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs said that 2011 is the year of iPad 2, so he killed any speculations claiming that the iPad 3 could be introduced this fall. Moreover, Jobs denied rumors that Apple was working on the third tablet.
Remind you that John Gruber was the first who wrote: “I think the iPad fits most naturally into the same schedule as the iPods: where new hardware is announced and ships in September. My gut feeling is that Apple will move the iPad to a September release schedule, alongside the iPods.” Nevertheless, he was this very person who predicted Apple would release iPad 2 in March. So, let see, Apple often makes surprises!
What to expect from iPad 2?
There are lots of rumors about forthcoming second-gen iPad hardware. The iPad 2 is expected to be slimmer and lighter, with a larger speaker and an improved display designed to deliver a better experience in bright sunlight. It will likely run on a 1.2GHz, dual-core, ARM Cortex-A9 chip and Imagination’s SGX543 GPU architecture. The new iPad probably will support both GSM and CDMA thank to the Qualcomm chip. It will have double the RAM–512MB, same as the iPhone 4, as well as front camera for FaceTime and Photo Booth and back-facing one for POV FaceTime and shooting photos and video.
Alongside the new iPad Apple may also announce iOS 5 preview at the event. iOS 5 is expected to have new voice navigation, maps application and certainly Cloud/MobileMe/iWork/iLife integration, and updated notifications.
Apple Confirms: Two New Italian Stores to Open Soon, One in Sicily
Recently Apple posted on its website a new job listing that confirms rumors about Apple’s plans to open new Apple Store in southern Italy, most specifically in Sicily. The company focused its attention on opening Stores in near-Rome regions, so there are not so many Apple’s shops in southern Italy. The new store is to open by the end of summer 2011, according to the local press. The exact location of Store is still unknown. But there are some rumors claiming that the store will be open in the city of Catania. Apple plans to open other store in Bologna that confirms by another job listing.
New MacBook Pros to Carry Larger Trackpads, Dedicated SSD for Mac OS X
Rumors suggest that updated MacBook Pros appear later this week, most likely on Thursday. The new MacBook Pros will feature larger glass trackpads than those found on current models for greater flexibility and perhaps for more complex gestures. The lower-end models will have 8GB-16GB solid-state drives to house Mac OS X system files, and will also come equipped with a regular hard drive. This will offer the benefits of SSDs - instant on and super fast performance - while also providing lots of room for heavy users’ files. The idea of separate flash-based storage for system files is not a new one. Intel's "Turbo Memory", in 2006, offered similar functionality. The new machines will be up to a half-pound lighter than current models and there will be five different SKUs.
Another Leaked Case Suggests iPad 2 Will Simply Be Called ‘iPad’, Comes with Rear Camera Hole
A new leather case for the next-generation iPad appeared on German website Macerkopf.de. Design of the leaked case confirms all rumors about tapered edges, thinner design, rear-facing camera and flat back, but also provides some details on the actual name of the “iPad 2”. The terms iPad 2 was used by journalists and bloggers for indication of the second-generation iPad. That case comes with packaging with a simple label “For the new iPad” that might mean that iPad 2 will actually be called simply iPad.
It is also noteworthy to say that current iPhone 4 accessories don’t come with labels like “Made for the iPhone 4″. Instead, Apple went for a simple “Made for iPhone” that doesn’t point to the “iPhone 4” name in any way.
iPhone 5 to Use a 4-Inch Screen
Rumors say that Apple might expand the next generation iPhone’s screen to 4 inches to better compete with Google Android.
The component suppliers noted that the production lines for Apple's next generation iPhone have begun testing, and Apple is interesting in expanding the screen size to 4-inches to support the tablet PC market as the vendor only has a 9.7-inch iPad in the market.
Though, Apple’s prototypes for testing usually have little bit different designs than real products.
March 1st as Possible Date for New MacBook Pros
New rumors about possible update of the MacBook Pro line claim that the new laptops might appear on March 1st. March 1st falls on a Tuesday which is typical for Apple's releases. Moreover the previous update of the MacBook Pro was in April 2010 and now some resellers noticed that MacBook Pro models are on tight supply, and all problems with Intel’s Sandy Bridge processors, which are expected to be built in the new notebooks, were solved, so any delay will be minimal. Many also expect that some of the models may take design from the MacBook Airs.
