Antennagate-Related Troubles for Apple

antennagateThe release of the iPhone 4 turned out to be one of the most favourable developments for Apple for all the time. However the situation is deteriorating because there have already been calls to withdraw iPhone 4. Supposedly Apple released the iPhone knowing about the problems with the antenna reception. The company seems to have not focused too much on testing the phone by wireless communications experts.

Now it is called ‘Antenagate’, and this could have some very negative consequences for Apple. This topic has caused strong public reaction, and a Washington senator has requested Steve Jobs to find a solution without prejudice to the customers.

On 16 July Apple plans to hold a press conference.

apple-tablet-prototype-171

Today Taiwanese newspaper DigiTimes released another article which reveals that the producing of next-gen iPad will be started in the last quarter of 2010. New tablet will have 7-inch and 5.6-inch OLED displays supplied by Compal Electronics. Both of these small (compared to the current 9.7-inch model) devices will "target the e-book reader market, separating them from the 9.7-inch model, which mainly targets multimedia entertainment".

Choosing the OLED panels is explained by the assumption that its costs will be dropped soon, as LG display and Samsung Electronics are currently devoting resources into its development.

Old Wi-Fi-enabled iPhone Will Finally Go On Sale in China

china-100712

According to The Wall Street Journal, last week Chinese Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center approved Wi-Fi enabled iPhone to be put on sale soon in China. The problem is that on the accompanying picture it is clearly seen that the approved device is the iPhone 3G or 3GS, but certainly not the iPhone 4.

Apple’s smartphone went on sale last year, but it was Wi-Fi disabled because technology's standard was temporarily banned by the Chinese government. In May 2009 the ban was relaxed.

New Fring For iPhone Has 3G Video Chat Support

Few days ago Fring released new update for their iPhone app. Now it supports multitasking and, what is more important, 3G video calling via front facing video camera. With new Fring you can make video calls to anyone who has the same app installed on his device (and that must not be necessarily iPhone).

9to5mac already tested this new function and found that the quality of video leaves much to be desired, though over WiFi it's a bit clearer (that is why Apple didn't make 3G support for FaceTime). In some situations video call over 3G didn't have any audio streaming, so the interlocutor could not be heard.

Chatroulette Clone Released for iPhone 4

iChatr

New app has been released in iTunes Store - it's called iChatr and it mimics Chatroulette. As it uses the front facing camera to create random video chat, the app is currently available only for iPhone 4 users.

So if you want to meet new person in your life, just use iChatr. The only problem is that developers for some reasons didn't make support for iPhone's speakers, so you'll need to use headphones.

You can download iChatr for free here. But be aware that one way video chat with older iPhone model will not work.

UPDATE: video test after the break.
