More than a month ago Steve Jobs has left his position of Apple CEO. Here is how he commented it:
“I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple’s CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come.”
However, Jobs remained Apple employee and Chairman of the Board at Apple. It was he who recommended Tim Cook as the next company CEO.
For the last few years Jobs had battled cancer. In 2004 he went through an operation related to the disease, and in 2009 he had a liver transplant.
Jobs' last public appearance was in June at Apple's 2011 WWDC conference in San Fransisco. There he presented iOS 5, iCloud and OS X Lion.
The picture dedicated to Jobs on the main page of Apple.com will also grace the cover of his biography written by Walter Isaacson. It is scheduled to be released next month.
Steve Jobs was 56 years old. Rest in peace, Steve.
The statement released by Apple's Board of Directors:
CUPERTINO, Calif. — We are deeply saddened to announce that Steve Jobs passed away today.
Steve’s brilliance, passion and energy were the source of countless innovations that enrich and improve all of our lives. The world is immeasurably better because of Steve.
His greatest love was for his wife, Laurene, and his family. Our hearts go out to them and to all who were touched by his extraordinary gifts.
