Apple to Expand Arizona Sapphire Plant Soon - Rumor

Apple and its partner GT Advanced Technologies are currently planning to expand operations at the Arizona sapphire plant. Doing so, the companies hope to increase the output of the manufacturing facility. However, it is still unknown what components (aside from sapphire screens) would that ‘expanded’ factory produce.

According to AppleInsider,

While construction of the joint Apple-GT Advanced sapphire manufacturing facility is not yet complete, multiple companies are already posting bids to build out a proposed expansion, according to people close to the project.

[...]

Firms actively working on the project include Rosendin Electric, Wesco Distribution and Graybar Electric, among others.

The company from Cupertino is surely interested in expanding the manufacturing facility in Mesa, Arizona as it might be much cheaper to produce several components within one factory than to import them from other countries.

In case you don’t know, the manufacturing facility in Mesa is expected to produce sapphire screens for the upcoming iPhone 6.
