iPhone reaches Android sales in May

According to recent market research, carried out by Kantar Worldpanel, Android remains the leader in smartphone market with 52% share. Apple is market challenger with 41,9 %, which is 3,5% higher than over the same period last year.

iOS success is put down to the agreement of T-Mobile to work with iPhone 5. The carrier picked up its best-selling smartphone only in the middle of April, but since then the sales have increased considerably. Currently 31% of carrier’s models are iPhones.

These are not only iPhone sales, but T-Mobile itself gains from the agreement. The carrier is likely to increase its share of smartphone sales in the USA. Now T-Mobile occupies the fourth place with 10,1% share after Verizon, AT&T and Sprint.

The USP of T-Mobil is its ability to attract first time smartphone buyers. 53% of iPhone buyers used to own feature phones, whereas the average iOS figure is 45%. Moreover, 28% of those who want to upgrade their phone would prefer an iPhone to be the next device.
