Now iPhone 4S Supports Not Only Assisted GPS, But Also GLONASS

Apple has quietly updated iPhone 4S tech specifications page to inform that its smartphone supports both Assisted GPS and GLONASS, the Russian GPS version.

Last week Russia launched up the last of 24 satellites which allow creating global location coverage. GLONASS in not a Russia-only service and some global positioning software and hardware is capable of using both GLONASS and GPS satellite data to provide more accurate location information.

However, only the tech specifications page on the U.S. site was updated to note GLONASS support and corresponding pages in other countries still mention only Assisted GPS as the iPhone 4S satellite location service.
