Purplera1n: iPhone 3GS jailbreak by GeoHot

purplera1n1

Geohot released a beta software for iPhone 3GS jailbreak called PurpleRa1n. It is beta and has some issues, but it gets the job done if you’re patient.

Requirements: You must have
1) Windows xp sp2, Vista, Windows 7, MAC OS
2) iTunes 8.2.0.23
3) Purplera1n software

The jailbreak is a bit incomplete. The kernel vm_mem patch is not present so Winterboard will not work as some other critical tweaks. (SBSettings does work!).

Use with caution and be patient. If you're not in a hurry, wait for the release from DevTeam.

Slide To The Left [Cydia]

There is a small tweak available in Cydia that likely will be relevant to all left-handed users. It is called "Slide To The Left" and does nothing more than change the direction of the slide. To download it you must add the repository PwnCenter: http://apt.pwncenter.com/ Use Winterboard to activate or deactivate the tweak.

CyDelete: delete Cydia applications just like those from AppStore

CyDelete, is a very small utility (only 10kb) that gives makes it possible to remove (uninstall) applications from Cydia just like those from AppStore. Everything that we have to do is click an icon on the springboard, so that they begin to vibrate. Than just hit (X) on application and confirm the deletion.

CyDelete is available in category Tweaks in Cydia.

Easy uninstall for Cydia applications

DHowett is the developer who is working on a new Tweak called "Removal". This is an extension of MobileSubstrate that will allow the easy removal of Cydia applications through "Wiggling Icons" and the (X), just like the App Store applications. Removal will also remove applications installed manually in the directory "/ Applications /".

Preview: SpinBoard rotates the icons of the Springboard

iSpazio published several screenshots of an app called SpinBoard. SpinBoard will be available in three different versions, and they've got the third one, rotating icons only 90, 180 and 270 degrees, just as the video shows.

It is not without bugs, however it works nice on the iPhone and very very poorly on iPod Touch.

Springboard Rotation Tweaks [Cydia]

Three different Springboard tweaks are to appear in Cydia quite soon. They make the movement of 2D icons in Springboard. Here are three different videos that show each of these effects:

The first is to have all the icons rotate in Landscape mode, and this situation will create animations by rotating the iPhone to the right or left.

The second, more attractive, it creates the same effect as the previous video but in the Portrait mode:

More IPhone 3G internals photos

Portelligent and Semiconductor Insights published a document describing interals of IPhone 3G. Techonline described the details. (Previous IPhone 3G internals photos can be viewed here)

Commuunications (3G/GSM) are on Infineon chips. One for GSM/GPRS/EDGE, another for WCDMA/HSDPA (3G). GPS module is not SiRF as we all thought. Apple uses PMB 2525 Hammerhead II. The Hammerhead II integrates an assisted-GPS (A-GPS) baseband processor with a low-noise GPS RF front end and multi-path mitigation to avoid large errors in urban environments.
