Security Researchers Find New Security Flaw in iOS 10

A new security flaw in iOS 10 has been recently found by a firm called Elcomsoft. According to the researchers, the flaw makes it easier to access encrypted iOS 10 backups made using iTunes as the backup process ignores some security checks that were present in iOS 9 and older versions of Apple’s operating system.

Apple has commented on the issue saying it is already working on a fix. The company pointed out that iCloud backups are not affected and recommended users to set up strong passwords on their computers at least until the fix is out.

“We’re aware of an issue that affects the encryption strength for backups of devices on iOS 10 when backing up to iTunes on the Mac or PC. We are addressing this issue in an upcoming security update. This does not affect iCloud backups,” an Apple spokesperson said.

Currently, Apple is working on iOS 10.1, so it is very likely that the fix for the security flaw will be added to the upcoming update. Moreover, since the problem is now highlighted in media, the company may release it very soon.
