Apple Has Filed Plans For 500,000 Square-Foot Data Center In Oregon
In February Apple announced its plans to construct a new data center on a lot of 160 acres in Prinviille, Oregon, and in April it was reported that Apple agreed to invest $250 million in the facilities.
Now The Associated Press that Apple has submitted its plans for the project to the city of Prinville.

Later this month we told you that Apple was already undertaking a minor expansion of its massive data center in Maiden, North Carolina. The company has recently received permits for building “tactical data center.” Now we may show you aerial photos of the site obtained by Wired, demonstrating ongoing installation of solar panels at the 100-acre solar farm across the street from the data center and what appears to be the 4.8-megawatt fuel cell facility behind the data center.
Apple Already Pursuing Minor Expansion at North Carolina Data Center
In March, Apple filed an application for permit to build a "tactical data center" to be located at the site of the company's existing data center in Maiden, North Carolina. Such tactical data center is expected to locate at the relatively small area of 20,000 square feet. The Hickory Daily Record that discovered Apple’s filling now issued a new report revealing more details on Apple's plans.
Behind the Deal for Apple's North Carolina Data Center
GigaOM reports that Apple was initially interested in building its data center within an abandoned textile mill in the area, but then the company decided that the building would be too small for its needs.
Economic development officials in Catawba County, and a data center development group, had been talking with Apple for months to get the company interested in setting up its data center in town. Then the developer spent months making sure that an abandoned mill building — a remnant of the region’s days as a vibrant textile manufacturing area — would be ready to house the new facility.

Apple to invest $1B in Nevada data center, business facilities
Reno Gazette Journal has reported that Apple plans to invest $1 billion over the next ten years into its Reno, NV project. According to online postings from city and county officials, the project will include a data center near Sparks, NV to support iCloud capabilities, as well as separately-located business and purchasing facilities.

Apple plans to block competitors' prying ears with new off-campus cafeteria
The San Jose Mercury News reports that on Tuesday the Planning Commission unanimously approved the project of 21,468-square-foot cafeteria near Apple’s Cupertino, Calif., headquarters. The non-Apple employees will not be welcomed in the cafeteria that will allow Apple employees to speak freely about their business without fearing that competitors are eavesdropping.
"We like to provide a level of security so that people and employees can feel comfortable talking about their business, their research and whatever project they're engineering without fear of competition soft of overhearing their conversations," said Dan Wisenhunt, Apple's director of real estate facilities. "That is a real issue today in Cupertino because we've got other companies here in our same business."
The cafeteria will be a two-story building that will include a cafe, meeting rooms, lounge areas and courtyard space. The second floor will be intended for cafeteria employees for storage, locker rooms, restrooms and more. The site will also include 70 parking spaces housed in an underground garage.
Apple provides additional details for Cupertino campus project
The city of Cupertino has recently presented the updated plans and renderings for Apple's Cupertino campus project that was first unveiled by late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. The main building, which Jobs described as "a little like a spaceship landed," will comprise 2.8 million square feet over its four stories. The campus will also accommodate a café and restaurant, fitness center and corporate auditorium with seating for up to 1,000 people, as well as 300,000 square feet of research facilities. The majority of power for the facilities will be supplied by an "on-site low carbon Central Plant" and will also be supplemented by solar power.
Rumors: Apple Is Interested In Taking Virgin’s Prime Location In Paris

French newspaper Le Figaro () that Virgin is going to vacate its retail outlet on Champs-Élysées in Paris and Apple is one of the main candidates said to be interesting in occupying the spot. The Virgin store covers nearly 75,000 square feet, with about 50,000 square feet dedicated to the sales floor.
Apple Is Planning To Construct New Retail Stores In Switzerland And France
As French magazine AixEnProvence.fr reports (), Apple plans to build a new store in Aix-en-Provence in France. According to the renderings, a one-store building will be relatively small one compared to other Apple stores and will be constructed on a broad stone plaza. Apart from the tan-colored rear wall, the store will be entirily encompassed with transparent glass. A second rendering depicts the store with a fountain that is similar to the the Fifth Avenue plaza fountain in New York. Reports note that the new location could be open in the end of 2012 or in early 2013.
Apple Wants To Lease 700,000-800,000 Square Feet Of New Space In Sunnyvale
While Apple is moving forward on plans for its 2.8 million square feet campus in Cupertino, its interim space needs continue to grow, although the company leased 373,000 square feet space in Cupertion half a year ago and soon aftter its presence in New York City to over 50,000 square feet.
Grand Central Apple Store uncovered
Apple took down the tarps covering the front of its soon-to-open Grand Central Terminal Store. Visitors may see now the entrance to one of Apple’s largest retail locations in the world, the stairs leading up to the store that were previously blocked off by a large black display with digital sign teasing the forthcoming grand opening, as well as a glowing Apple logo, on the east balcony. The store is lit by chandeliers hanging overhead. Apple’s products are placed on the maple wood tables. 315 employees will serve customers.
The 23,000-square-foot store will be one of Apple's largest retail locations in the world. It sits in a prime location in Grand Central Terminal, though which an estimated 700,000 people pass every day. Apple sent out a press release on Wednesday, announcing that the new Grand Central store will open at 10 a.m. this Friday, Dec. 9. It noted that the store overlooks the historic Main concourse from the East and North East balconies of Grand Central Terminal, and features two Genius Bars.
Apple Submits Revised Plans and Renderings for Apple's New Campus
Apple has reportedly submitted revised plans for their so-called "Spaceship" campus. The company plans to break ground on the project next year and open the facility in 2015. This mega-campus in Cupertino, Calif., is expected to provide Apple with approximately 2.8 million square feet for up to 13,000 employees. Late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs personally presented the original plans for the campus to the City of Cupertino in June. Following Jobs' presentation, city officials quickly voiced support for the project. Jobs described it as follows:
It's a pretty amazing building. It's a little like a spaceship landed. It's got this gorgeous courtyard in the middle... It's a circle. It's curved all the way around. If you build things, this is not the cheapest way to build something. There is not a straight piece of glass in this building. It's all curved. We've used our experience making retail buildings all over the world now, and we know how to make the biggest pieces of glass in the world for architectural use. And, we want to make the glass specifically for this building here. We can make it curve all the way around the building... It's pretty cool.
The City of Cupertino posted an update to the company's "Apple Campus 2 Project" on Tuesday evening. Though most of the new renderings are higher-quality versions of the original design, some of the images show a darker color for the structure's roof. Other changes include addition of parking plans, drawings for a private jogging path and a proposed expansion of the corporate fitness center from the original proposal of 25,000 square feet to 45,000 square feet.
