Tightened iPhone 5 Quality Control Standards Slowed The Production Process

According to Bloomberg’s report, Apple has tightened quality control standards for iPhone 5 production, in order to decrease the number of smartphones that are delivered with scratches on its aluminum shell right out of the box. But the initiative seems to have slowed the production of the new Apple’s smartphone.

“Stricter benchmarks have hampered production of the iPhone 5's anodized aluminum housings, forcing Foxconn's Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. to idle factories”.

The report said that Foxconn had to stop assembly work at one of its factories on October 6 due to a lack of available rear shell parts.
The stricter standards have also increased tension of the employees responsible for producing the parts. Some Foxconn workers noted that every step of the assembly and manufacturing process has the potential for scratching the soft aluminum.
Reportedly the increased stress among workers resulted in a brief strike of thousand of Foxconn employees over the issue last week, though Foxconn denied that any such action took place.
