Apple Added New 512 GB and 256 GB Flash Storage Options For iMacs

Apple has included new storage options to its iMac line, allowing users to choose a 512 GB or a 256 GB flash storage drive as part of the process of order customization. The new options can be added at $600 and $300 surcharges respectively in place of the 1 TB hard drive that is standard in all iMac models.

Previously, the 21.5-inch iMac had been available only with the standard 1 TB hard drive or with a Fusion Drive for extra $250. Apple’s Fusion Drive combines 1 TB traditional hard drive with a 128 GB flash drive to provide fast access to frequently-used files while offering relatively cheap mass storage for other user’s files. Those options are still available, but for users looking for a solution based solely on a flash storage, Apple is now offering that 512 and 256 GB capacities.
