Apple just published a video that shows iPad 2 Smart Cover in action. Take a look:

A new Apple’s patent tells us that the company at this point works on the gesture-based commands determined with audio transducers on the corners of a given surface. That means that if you press or tap on a surface, the audio receivers would determine where and how you touched it. The application describes a microprocessor that can "interpret electrical signals generated by the one or more acoustic transducers as input." The idea is that these transducers detect a finger making contact with the chassis and register those vibrations as gestures. Now the company found five different ways how it could be done.

One man from Atlanta has recently visited local Walmart store to purchase an iPad, but when he came home he found it was a fake. The thing he bought was of aluminum case with Apple logo and paper homescreen under a fake glass on the front. Most probably it was a store display unit, which shouldn't be sold.

Eventually the man decided to sue Walmart, as the latter doesn't plan to refund him and blames Apple as it is them who handle operations with actual devices and store demo units.

Some local news speculates that the man could purchase a real iPad and then swap it with fake.

The Chronic Dev-Team has announced via twitter an untethered jailbreak for iOS 4.2.1. This should work for iPhone 3GS (new bootrom), iPhone 4 and iPad. And it will not require saved iOS 4.2b3 SHSH keys.

The untether is demoed in the video below. It's a result of a collaboration between @0naj, @p0sixninja, and @pod2g. P0sixninja has previously said it will not require iOS 4.2b3 SHSH blobs.

A small bug with wifi still remains. They will release utility as soon as they fix it.

Verizon has posted its first iPhone TV commercial conforming that after years of speculation and rumors, Verizon will be launching the iPhone 4 to the general public on February 10, 2011. Existing Verizon customers will be able to preorder the device on February 3rd with general availability on February 10th. The commercial stars with shots of various clocks ticking, building anticipation for what is revealed to be the simple text of “iPhone 4,” accompanied by an Apple logo without depiction of the iPhone 4, followed by the Verizon logo in red, “it begins,” and  “2.10.11.” Check the video above!

At the latest CES, InteraXon (a Canadian company) has announced and demonstrated a headset that can connect to iPhones and iPads and allows you to control apps and games with your mind. Technically, this custom EEG headset pairs with a thought-controlling framework that has been added to the popular iPad game Zen Bound 2 game, letting users control the wooden shapes on screen with their brainwaves. Now the real question is: are you willing to put a headset on to control stuff with your brain? Doesn’t it look a little bit, well, weird?

The iPhone Dev team has just released the second beta of their untethered RedSn0w jailbreak (the first beta has been released few hours ago and has more bugs).

New jailbreak is called "Jailbreak Monte", as it uses new "backup method". The iPhone Dev Team warns that their beta-version is not a general release and you should back up all your media before using it. There are also other limitations and bugs:
